To put it simply. Yes Minister is the best sitcom of all time. Everthing you must know about social life (along with House of Cards - not sitcom) is basically still there today.

Your mixing rubbish american comedy with legendary must see and REALLY sitcoms.

Polls are not based on our personal opinion, just because you think that Yes Minister(appreciate your love towards it) is the best sitcom of all time for you I can't just add it to the list(it must come under the required criteria else it will be considered as my favorites).

For some those "rubbish" American comedy must really be their favorite and those "legendary must see" sitcoms might be their rubbish one's so can't REALLY decide.

Like I said mate, I understand why Friends or BBT is there. What I do not get it is why Yes, Minister didn't match the criteria.

What is exactly the criteria? 

Did you just look for top rated comedy TV series in IMDB?

If so you could change the name of the poll to that.

Mr. Bean is an exception

Cinephile, there are plenty of exceptions. 

Firstly, all of the UK sitcoms are in the league of their own. Oftentimes they have way more sophisticated and/or abstract humor (although still, canned laughter is often utilized, as well). They often operate on a very different level than most of the world in that genre, for some reason. 

Secondly, what I consider was the best period for American sitcoms, 1970's to early 1990's has some gold and/or magic about it. "M*A*S*H" in particular still holds up exceptionally great and was very much pioneering in creating a modern dramedy, despite still being a sitcom most of the time (it had quite a journey, but seriously, it's all there even in the pilot - watch that scene and tell me it doesn't have some sincere humane qualities, great acting and mood whiplash). I honestly consider it a much better overall thing than a feature film. Others like "Night Court", "Cheers", "Taxi", even "ALF" (it's actually a testament that it's still a feel good show with genuine chemistry between characters despite production history practically consists of scrutiny and misery) have two great things at a core: surprisingly great acting (most of the actors from these shows went to become either A-listers or good character actors) and inspiring, friendly, somewhat melancholic atmosphere.  Heck, "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" has some surprisingly well-handled dramatic moments which you can't just shrug off. Sometimes I dig up random episodes of things like "Doctor Doctor" just out of curiosity and I'm often blown away at how interesting and well-acted they are compared to modern era of sitcoms. It's hard to tell when things started to go awry, but in my humble opinion things like "The Big Band Theory" are very different and really, really subpar when compared to those old classics. I'm not saying that actors are worse or anything, my problem is usually with the creative and directorial approach. You can find moral tales in most modern sitcoms, but people eventually become so tired with those mid-2010's that the classic "retro" format started to resurface. "Young Sheldon", "The Goldbergs" both depict and recreate the time when sitcoms were at their heyday to try and find that endearing quality about them.  

And... I'm saying that as one of the biggest fans of "Mr. Bean" (1990-1995) to ever walk on Earth. :) It's sitcom affiliation is mainly because you can't quite put it anywhere else, otherwise it's a pretty unique approach to comedy in general, that has more similarities with silent comedy than it has with, for example, "Friends". 

I agree with you the older shows have fewer votes, so maybe I'll do one with laugh tracks and one without it?
