For the following reasons:
- There are movies that are remakes of old movies and have the same title.
- There are movies with the same title.
- There are movies and TV series that have the same title.

For all these reasons, from my point of view, it is necessary to differentiate them by year in order to identify them accurately.

Those are all good reasons, but that can be accomplished by placing the year within the text and question. In fact, I might start doing it myself in those places, when I think there is likely to be some confusion. But, it really isn't necessary to do in all those places, especially in the titles, IMHO.

Also, I can't recall ever reading a professional newspaper, magazine or even a Hollywood trade publication that puts the year of the movie in their titles, all the time. So, I would defer to the experts if you don't trust my opinion.

In addition, I don't think it applies here since I don't think there is more than one 'John Wick: Chapter 4' in existence. I doubt anyone will be confused, in this case. 

Plus, when movies and TV series that have the same title, movies get single quotations and TV series get double quotations, like 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' vs. "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" to avoid that issue.

Finally, since most of the current discussion revloves around the latest or most prevalent current version, I think most people assume that is the one being refered to. I am all about being abundantly clear, but it is best accomplished in the introduction and question with a year placement for clarity. Titles are intended to be short and sweet, plus mentioning the year three times is a little bit of overkill.

You are right, in part. You made me think that there are very precise titles that I don't need to include the year. And if I do, I won't repeat it later, since it's clear what year I mean.

I'll be careful in future polls.

In Bill & Ted BJ they even had to change film to black and white so the audience could tell when his character was a robot or dead
