Live Poll: Face-Off: Lithgow vs. Shatner – "Nightmare at 20,000 Feet"

Hello, poll forum, another idea for your consideration, feedback welcome, thank you.

"Nightmare at 20,000 Feet" is a memorable episode of the legendary American television anthology series The Twilight Zone (1959).

It is one of the most well-known and frequently referenced episodes of the series and it endures in popular culture.

This is the first of six episodes to be directed by Richard Donner.

The episode was remade as a segment of Twilight Zone: The Movie (1983).

Which is the most iconic performance of "Nightmare at 20,000 Feet": John Lithgow or William Shatner?

"Which is the most iconic performance..."

This phrase "most iconic" is not only overused on IMDB, but it bugs me because it is also wrong.

Something or someone is either an icon or not.  One can't be more or less iconic, any more than something can be more or less unique.

Elvis Presley is an icon, but he is no more or less an icon than Humphrey Bogart. One's opinion doesn't enter into it.

  • Icon: "very famous or popular, especially being considered to represent particular opinions or a particular time"

Which brings me to my second problem. One cannot ask any individual about someone or somethings iconic status as that status is reflected by popularity and consensus that is already established. It is not up for debate.

'Most memorable', 'favourite', 'best', 'greatest' and many others are all acceptable as they are debatable as a matter of personal opinion.

Great poll though. :)
