Poll Suggestion: Face-Off: Does Pineapple Belong on Pizza?

🍕🍍

Pineapple pizza is not for everyone. Some people love the taste of sweet pineapple paired with salty pizza, while others despise it with a passion.

What is your choice?

Other than dropping it on the ground and quickly stepping on it, putting pineapple on pizza is the fastest way to ruin pizza!!!!

Well, perhaps pineapple only belongs a pineapple pizza, not on a classic American pizza and not on an Italian pizza. I've always found it interesting that pineapple is the only fruit besides tomato, pepper and olive that a baker could get away with using to augment a loaf of  flatbread. Now that I think about, I could imagine an array of cucumber slices as a standard topping, maybe very small amounts of lemon zest or lime zest. The key is that the fruit must not be too sweet or too sugary like how most edible fruits are.

As short as it is, it should be a face-off, isn't it?

@GabrielFox ,

I enjoy pineapple on pizza, especially if the pizza has Canadian bacon, ham or Italian sausage. The company that produces SPAM®has a recipe of SPAM® Hawaiian Pizza on their website.

I enjoy other unusual toppings on pizza. I had a great tuna pizza a long time ago in Sheboygan, Wisconsin.  The list of toppings I enjoy is way too long to include here and others may not find them palatable.

Though I don't have it often on my pizza. I do on rare occasions enjoy a lively slice of Hawaiian pizza (ham and pineapple).

So, yes. Pineapple does belong on pizza.

@GabrielFox  How funny! I love this idea almost as much as I hate pineapple on pizza. I even hate the idea of pineapple on pizza.

Bravo, Gabriel, for the most fun poll I've seen in a while. If I were still an Admin, I'd fight tooth and nail (with @Jessica ,  @dan_dassow , @Peter_pbn  @Pencho15 )to be the one to run this one, lol. This reminds me of the old poll board: thanks for bringing that  playfulness back!  : )

A Chicago Deep Dish Pizza Extravaganza

Ingredients:

  • Crust:
    • 1 cup all-purpose flour
    • 1 teaspoon yeast
    • 1/2 teaspoon sugar
    • 1/4 teaspoon salt
    • 1/4 cup warm water
    • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Sauce:
    • 1 jar (15 ounces) marinara sauce
    • 1 tablespoon dried oregano
    • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
    • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • Toppings:
    • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
    • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
    • 1/2 cup crumbled Italian sausage
    • 1/2 cup pepperoni slices
    • 1/4 cup diced pineapple
    • 1/4 cup sliced jalapeno peppers
    • 1/4 cup Canadian bacon
    • 1/4 cup thick-cut smoked bacon, cooked and crumbled
    • 1/4 cup shredded smoked beef brisket

Instructions:

  1. Make the dough: In a small bowl, combine the flour, yeast, sugar, and salt. In a separate bowl, combine the warm water and olive oil. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until a dough forms. Knead the dough for 5-7 minutes on a lightly floured surface. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  2. Prepare the sauce: In a small bowl, combine the marinara sauce, oregano, garlic powder, and red pepper flakes.
  3. Assemble the pizza: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Grease a deep-dish pizza pan. Roll out the dough and place it in the pan. Spread the sauce evenly over the dough. Top with the mozzarella cheese, Parmesan cheese, sausage, pepperoni, pineapple, jalapeno peppers, Canadian bacon, smoked bacon, and shredded beef brisket.
  4. Bake: Bake the pizza for 25-30 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is bubbly. Let cool for a few minutes before serving.

Enjoy your delicious and hearty Chicago-style deep dish pizza!
