I believe that there were 15 films in the Basil Rathbone series of Sherlock Holmes movies. The first was 1939's The Hound of the Baskervilles.

@Paok_Kilkis THere was one television movie that some count, some don't.

There was also the Charlie Chan series of films from the same era (even though they used several different actors to play the title character).

Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce, however, were my favorites. He puts the awful Robert Downey Jr. to shame and makes Cumberbunch look mediocre. Jeremy Britt was, by the way, the second best Holmes.
