While The Great Escape is one of my all time top five favorite movies and would get my vote, you may wish to consider adding:

Ben-Hur (1959, 239,000 votes, 8.1 rating, tied for most Oscar wins, and in the top 250)

The Ten Commandments (1956, 7.9 rating)

@TheOldJalapenoman

I'm only considering history movies that have the thriller genre on the IMDb.

Both Ben Hur and The Ten Commandments don't have it.

Nice movie but even this doesn't have a thriller genre on IMDb.

I never even picked Dunkirk was a "thriller". Only thrill was seeing how long they thought a Spitfire could glide on an empty tank
