Optimizing polls

I never made bones about beeing German. Germans like to optimize things to simplify and make them practical, something we have in common with Japanese people, even though they are better about doing that. In the past I suggested to cut the term "Poll Suggestion:" in the title to "PS:", which was accepted by e.g. urbanemovies. I also changed my own poll suggestions into the form:

"Intro:

Suggestions:

List:

Polls: TBD"

No one has to do it, but I think it's practical to make it like that.

Why do I make this thread? I made up that threat to give a platform for ideas to make poll writing more innovative. It's for suggesting and discussing procedures about poll suggestions. Recently, I I've put "(rtg)" at the end of the titles of my poll suggestions to mark them as "ready to go". If you have good ideas, please let me know.

In the past I suggested to cut the term "Poll Suggestion:" in the title to "PS:"

New users who visit the community's main page won't know what PS means.

I got the impression that they don't care at the beginning, because anyway they mostly ever start their own first threads without "Poll Suggestion:", or "PS:". After they read the first welcome-explanations of the poll board and maybe some FAQs of Dan, they start doing right. I think the "Poll Suggestion:", or "PS:"-term is more for people who are already involved.

Not everyone comes to the community to suggest a poll.

Yes, but then they don't need it.

The point of putting a header like Poll Suggestion in the subject is to identify the type of post to users of the community.

And that in a time of Lol, tbd, rotfl, diy, fyi, ffw, JFF, s.h.i.e.l.d.

I understand your issue, but today we got to keep up with the acronyms. ;D

On the other hand ... without acronym it surely is better understandable, clearly.

Which leads my back to my first answere.

I like using the P.S. abbreviation too. As it makes it easier to read the titles on a single line when scrolling through the poll message board. Plus, if you only use it in the title and not in the body (use poll suggestion), it makes it easier to search and manage your outstanding poll suggestions (when using P.S. as your search term and your username on the advanced filter). You can see the status of each poll suggestion, ensure your suggestions are properly classified as ideas, and to check to see when you last had a comment. I find it be a far more efficient approach.

I think it's better to put the ending (rtg) on the title when it's ready to go. So the administrators know if ther user  still sees improving potential, or if it's considered to go live by the user. The administrators still can ask for corrections, then.

In English, "P.S." most often means "Post Script" which is something that a person writes at the end of a letter. (See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Postscript.)

@gromit82

Sure, "P.S.". But this is plain used as "PS:" (wthout the periods) be me and urbanemovies.

P.S.: I also can cope with (ready) like urbanemovies does for rtg-poll-ideas.

And P.S. doesn't make sense as postscriptum in a title, because post means after and scriptum means script. It's something which is set after a text, which makes it impossible to detect "PS:" as postscriptum in a title.

I also think that "(ready)" wold be better and join urbanemovies to mark my ready ideas with (simply) "(ready)"

Sprinklr (in the context of the way IMDb staff have set it up their community site) doesn't exactly make navigating these boards easy. Isn't there a way to pin important threads so that they appear at the top of the automated index of threads.

I think I am the only one that still uses Sugg: instead of poll suggestion, that's as we used to do it in the old message boards.

I guess that would also be ok. I'm not sure which form is the best. PS: is very ok by me, Sugg is a short form which is more clearly.
