Live Poll: Youth Icons

Young people are future of the society. Here are some movie characters who demonstrated the courage to speak or act against norms of the society. Sometimes even they had to fight their inner demons and come on top.

Which of these characters would you choose as the youth icon?

Thanks for suggestions. I want to stick to movies only. You can make a TV list, if you like. :)

I am looking for characters who did something for greater good. Those who set positive example are also fine.

Removed Ferris Bueller as I think it doesn't fit now.

I haven't seen any of those movies except 'Back to the Future. And Marty doesn't fit because he is doing everything for himself and family.

For others based on the plot:

Nancy - It looks like she is just trying to save herself from the killer. If so, she might not fit the criteria.

Joel - I think this is similar to Ferris Bueller. I think it doesn't fit.

Ronald - Same as above.

I would suggest these edits:

First of all thank you for amazing suggestions. :)

I didn't write it, but mostly I am trying to keep characters aged 14-15 to 22 more or less.

I had 'Gordie' in the list who was 12, so removed it. And for same reasons cannot add Scout Finch, Paikea, Akeelah, Wadjada. I know the first two are all time iconic characters, but they fit more as kids.

Lara - This choice seems complicated, I am not sure about it after reading the plot. So, I would not add it unless someone has strong reasons.

Buffy - Focusing on movies only, and movie character doesn't seem to be that great. Still thinking though.

Ofelia is already in the list. All others added. Thanks again. :)

Thank you for suggestions. :)

Keepig it for characters aged 14 or more as mentioned in previous response. Thus not adding Jojo, Billy, Amy, Missy.

Emma Nolan - From the plot, it doesn't look like she did much to be iconic.

Enola Holmes - Thinking.

Nancy - It is similar to Buffy. Thinking.

Peter Parker - Added, but from first series because I feel he had to do more struggle story wise.

Added others. Thanks again. :)

Tris Prior in Divergent (& sequels)

Sarah Connor & Kyle Reese in The Terminator

Luke Skywalker & Leia Organa in Star Wars

Added Tre, Sarah, Luke.

Kyle was just a war soldier who had a job to do. Leia was born with a golden spoon, she didn't have much struggle.

Thank you for suggestions. :)

Leia didn't have much struggle? What? Her work as a princess and a spy was important. She was tortured. Her homeworld was destroyed, making her princess of absolutely nothing. She bore no rank until the sequel trilogy.

That is a perspective of seeing things. I feel Luke had to do more struggle than Leia. And I am not too kin on adding multiple characters from single movie. No offense. :)

There is a counterpoint to what I stated earlier in the sense that neither Luke nor Leia were particularly rebellious in their own youthful right, since they both were influenced by elders interested in restoring the republican way. So, its like they were simply doing their jobs. Anakin Skywalker, on the other hand, did become fairly rebellious toward the Jedi after having joined them, and interestingly Darth Vader was at least slightly rebellious toward his master's merciless commitment to the "destructive conflict".

To stray off onto another subject within the question of the poll suggestion itself, I find it maybe unfortunate that we don't have many examples of movie characters who are like Holden Caulfield, with which to work.

I have added 2 more and it is full now. I am not considering any other now.

If there are obvious ones missed, I can replace with existing choices. Otherwise, I would consider it done.

I only realised this just now - but I can't in good conscience not vote for Anne Frank.

If I'd realised earlier I might have suggested restricting your poll to fictional characters; but what's done is done.

Good idea. Congrats on your latest live poll. 😀

Oh not, not at all, it wasn't a criticism - more of a personal opinion.

My comments were not intended to reflect negatively on you or your polls at all. I quite enjoy them, especially the numerical/mathematical ones. 😀

I concur with seeing The Man Who Knew Infinity. I saw it a while back. For clarification, it is a biopic on Srinivasa Ramanujan, famous for continued fractions and nested radicals.
