Live Poll: The Vatican Film List: Religion

“Since the first public audience in Paris viewed the moving pictures prepared by the Lumière brothers in December 1895, the film industry has become a universal medium exercising a profound influence on the development of people’s attitudes and choices, and possessing a remarkable ability to influence public opinion and culture across all social and political frontiers.” Pope John Paul II

In 1995, on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of cinema, the Vatican compiled a list of 45 "great films". The 45 movies are divided into three categories: Religion, Values and Art.

Which film of the Vatican film list 'Religion' is the best because of its religious significance?

A not particularly exciting list of films.  Haven't seen it but The Sacrifice (1986) gets my default vote as Andrei Tarkovsky is on my all time favorite directors list.

What an interesting idea for a poll. It works well. My choice: The Mission.

i'm a fan of Mickey Rourke and Franchesco that said id also recommend Brother Sun Sister Moon (the Franchesco film prior) to those that hasn't seen. it's probably easier to get a hold of digitally atm than Mickey Rourke's Franchesco especially in my region of australia i had to import it on a dodgy dvd on ebay. p.s. great selection of movies i'm planning on watching Andrei Rublev. I'd also (from the list) recommend The passion of Joan of arc. the mission had a beautiful score done by Morricone. Ben Hur was good but disagree with the late Charles Heston fire and brimstone. i'm more of a Christian believer of Apocatastasis. Other Religious films i'd personally recommend are: the shack (2017) Mary Magdalene (2018) Radio Free Albemuth (2010) silence (2016) to name a few
