Wow. While I'm familiar with Pokémon the old cartoon (not so much the trading cards or their virtual equivalents), I've never heard of the practice of "hunting" Pokémon, so naturally I pictured the hunt for wild game, which usually involves lethal force. Now that I think of it, Pokémon have to come from somewhere, as they are not created inside those little spherical capsules that contain them. (Are they?) I should imagine that Pokémon are extremely hard to capture alive and domesticate. In the show, they are used like weapons to fight each other at the behest of their caregivers (masters), and apparently they are very powerful, possibly dangerous. Alas, I don't know anything about the backstory for this, like the origin of Pokémon, or what-in-the-world Meowth (who looks like a very distant cousin of Felix the Cat) is. I figure, he, being so articulate and free from bondage, isn't a Pokémon himself.
Okay. I've looked into the earlier bit about Meowth, and I see that there are at least three fan-borne conjectures about why Meowth is the only Pokémon with more than a one-or-two-word vocabulary. I've also come to be aware that there was one time that Meowth was drawn into and temporarily captured inside a Pokéball. Since the anime show is for children (designed to sell games and toys), I can imagine there may be a few ongoing mysteries or gaping plot holes. Haha.
This (cough cough) jokey (cough cough - I swear I don't have COVID) poll suggestion may have lost something in translation since I didn't have the foresight to link to the actual satirical webcomic it refers to but simply to the artist itself. I'll dig a little deep and may stumble on this thread's Ark of the Covenant.
Please change "Poll Suggestion" to "Live Poll" in the discussion thread title and change the settings so that it appears under "Praise" now, rather than "Idea."
I know the Pokemon-games from a colleague. It sure must be fun, but I didn't play it by myself. So I had to pick Clint Eastwood, even though it is way to crass statement about Pokemons. ;)
Pokemon "hunting" is more like capturing with Poké Balls, not lethal force. Pokemon are caught in the wild and used in friendly battles by trainers. If you're curious about type matchups, the pokemon type calculator can help build strong teams by analyzing strengths and weaknesses. As for Meowth, he's a unique Pokémon with the rare ability to speak.

They're doing it wrong. When you hunt for sport, you don't collect them and keep them in a pokeball. You stuff them for your own personal trophy.
