Live Poll: Poker-Faced Movie Characters

It takes some impressive acting abilities to stay emotionless during the whole film or for the most part of it. Which of these movie characters would you most hate to confront in a Poker game?

Oh and yeah, sorry Matrix and Terminator fans, but no sunglasses allowed during the game.

Are we voting on the actor's ability to pull it off or the character?

That's an interesting question. I think I had the "character" in mind when making this list.

"It takes some impressive acting abilities to stay emotionless" made me think that maybe it was referring to the acting.

Yes, you're right, it's like the text is sending two messages in one, I'll work on a better introduction, maybe just remove that opening statement (not very essential to the poll anyway)

Norman Bates had one of the best, and eeriest, poker faces. The writing and acting combined perfectly for it.

Thanks, Kyle.

You know, I had many of these suggestions in mind, Alex De Large was also a possible option, but I don't know... the focal point was the ability of the characters to stay emotionless all through the film, to keep a straight stone-face any time, with a few outbursts in extreme life-and-death situations.

The fact that many of these characters smile a lot indicates more 'colorful' personalities, Lecter, Landa and Torrance (maybe the Joker, too) can be good company if you're having a nice chit-chat with them. What do you think?

Or maybe I just don't want this poll to be a retread of this one:

Tommy Lee Jones in anything would do it. My family used to count how many times he'd smile in a film. The average was twice, and the most was about six in Man of the House (which sucks).

I personally don't think the T-1000 should be on here. He's a robot, not a human. If he is programmed to not smile, then he won't.

Also I feel like Lecter *should* be included. Remember the line about when he was hooked up to the heart monitor and when he killed a nurse his pulse never went above 72? The guy has really no emotions, except for love of pain in others. The TV show just emphasized that behavior (or lack thereof).

FYC:
Chief Bromden - One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest
Joe Cabot - Reservoir Dogs
Sameen Shaw - Person of Interest
Castiel - Supernatural (first two or three years he was on the show)
Vincent - Collateral
Daria - Daria
Neil McCauley - Heat
Jason Bourne
Ghost Dog - Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai
Leon - The Professional
Hit-Girl - Kick-Ass
Wednesday Addams - The Addams Family
Margo Tenenbaum - The Royal Tenenbaums
Madeleine - Spectre
Spock

Of the ones I know, these are really good, especially Vincent from Collateral, Margo Tenenbaum, and Spock.

Another great poll, ElMo! From the options so far, I'd vote Anton Chigur. As I've told you so many times before, you come up with so many creative polls, wow.

Not only would Anton be hard to read at the table, he'd be the least likely to let you live with any money you won from him.

Thanks for all the suggestions, I think I'll have some homework to do on this one so I can separate between 'emotionless' pôker-faces and cold-stare poker-faces, not quite the same.  But I guess the final list will have more than 20 options.

I've already told you how much I like this one but I just noticed this: Check? Check. Now, discuss here and that's great, too. 'Adds a really funny touch.

'Good intro, too, but I tripped a bit over "for the most part of it." This is just a suggestion:
It takes some impressive acting abilities to stay emotionless during the whole film or for most of it. Which of these movie characters would you most hate to confront in a Poker game?

It's a good intro either way. I was thinking I'd hate to play poker with Anton Chigurh the most but now I'm thinking Michael Corleone.

Thanks ruby, yeah, "for the most part" doesn't make sense.

I try to add as many characters but I insist on the fact that it has to be one who stays emotionless for most of the film. Landa is perfect for the quiet scenes but he gets passionate, funny, over-the-top so many times that if I had to add him, there are at least 10 or 15 icons I'll have to add.

Some were great too but there were no pictures of them. I'll try to upload one with Wednesday Addams.

iI have uploaded 3 more pictures, I'll bump this again when the list will be complete.

Hahaha, I didn't even think of Wednesday Addams - that's a great idea and funny, too, just because the tv series is funny. I agree with you about Landa. I couldn't come up with any ideas for this one. My thinking cap has been a bit rusty.

Oh my gosh, it's trick-or-treat time here in the eastern part of the States and I just had a teenager dressed up as Alex from A Clockwork Orange! Lol. How great. She was a very literate and precocious kid. :)

She's there now, and a few other additions, could make it to 22 :)

Worthy adversaries, all.  However, I would argue the candidates from comedies be excluded, since their poker face is meant for laughs.  I include the teenager Larry in "The Big Lebowski" among them.

The woman from Rebecca is classic, but the underlying lesbian creepiness of her character almost makes it campy.
