I have seen DC posting this kind of poll for all of the years of my inactivity. I remember posting the first of these in 2014 asking on: "The films released in 1939 are 75 years old this year. Which of these notable 1939 films is your favorite?"
https://www.imdb.com/poll/eryGSqe1BhM/
When I was originally doing this type of poll, I tried to include:
All of the pictures nominated for the Best Picture author
The highest grossing films of the year
The highest rated films of the year (per this website)
Films of historical significance
P.S. to DC: I came back just to comment on polls and offer suggestions, not to make polls anymore. I have suffered multiple strokes and am basically now an invalid (bedridden). As such, I am retired now. I have lost a lot of abilities both physically and mentally and really can't do a lot of computer related things anymore.

Live Poll: https://www.imdb.com/poll/QmTWkM6-uS8/
Please change "Poll Suggestion" to "Live Poll" in the discussion thread title and change the settings so that it appears under "Praise" now, rather than "Idea."
FAQ: Updating Threads After Poll Goes Live
= = =
You may wish to consider @Pencho15's suggestions and ask for a re-push if you add any of them.
In that case, you're missing:
Soylent Green, it is just in the limit with 7.0
Sleeper has 7.1 and also meets the minimum votes threshold
The Way We Were, also in the limit with 7.0
Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid has 7.2
La Grande Bouffe has 7.1
They probably achieved the minimum rating after you first created your list.

It is impossible to choose. There are too many really good ones. If I could choose four, it would be: Don't Look Now, The Sting, Charlie Varrick and High Plains Drifter (the order is random).
That The Exorcist is the one that got the most votes is, in my view, ridiculous.
