Live Poll: Most Heroic Officer of the Titanic

15 April 2017 marked the 105th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic, one of the most memorable disasters in history. Approximately 1,600 out of the 2,224 passengers on board did not survive.

Many movies were made about this disaster, the most famous being Titanic (1997) and A Night to Remember (1958), all depicting their own view on the events of that fateful night.

But who do you think was the most heroic officer on board the Titanic?

I can honestly say that the 1997 "Titanic" version has always been my all-time favorite movie out of all the movies that have been done about that historic and fateful voyage.  And, in answer to the question on this forum regarding the "Most Heroic Officer of the Titanic", I would just like to say that I was very impressed with all the names on the list.  To me, each one of them is a first-rate hero.  But, since I must pick out the Numero Uno of the bunch, I'm going to go out on a limb here, and pick: Capt. Edward J. Smith, played by Bernard Hill, who also played King Theoden of Rohan in the "Lord Of The Rings" movies.  Just as Hill impressed me as Theoden, he really impressed me as the captain of the Titanic, including the part where he bravely, and with dignity, followed the old naval tradition of "going down with the sinking ship".  He makes you wish that there are more heroes like him, don't you think?

While I'm sure Capt. Smith was a very brave man in reality.  Don't think the Titanic movie was real life.  Nobody made out in an antique car in the real version of events. Read a book and you will get a much clearer picture  of what really happened

Bert,

I'll add the images of those characters on IMDb database. You may have to create this an 'image' list later.

Bert,

I have already added those images, which will go live by tomorrow. Here are those images:

Captain Edward J. Smith

Chief Officer Wilde

First Officer William Murdoch

Second Officer Charles Herbert Lightoller

Fourth Officer Joseph Boxhall

Fifth Officer Harold Lowe

Sixth Officer James Moody

Unfortunately, I couldn't find any images of 3rd Officer Pitman played by Kevin De La Noy. So I think you should use Kevin De La Noy's IMDb Primary image in the place of 3rd Officer Pitman and just write a note like - "3rd Officer Pitman Played by Kevin De La Noy".

15 April 2017 marks the 105th anniversary...
Perhaps marked would be a better word, since the date has passed.

As always, the pleasure is mine, dude.  BTW, instead of calling me Ryan, you can refer to me by three nicknames that I sometimes go by here in my home: 'Willy', 'Digger' or 'Poncho'.  And I'd appreciate it if you would pass this information along to everyone here on the forum, if you wouldn't mind.

While we're waiting for the pictures for this poll to be processed by the IMDb editors, here's an interesting fact (I will upload this under the trivia of Titanic in IMDb):
After the release of Cameron's Titanic (1997), there was outcry in Dalbeattie, Scotland, the home town of First Officer Murdoch, due to the way in which Murdoch was portrayed in the film, and in an effort to make amends, James Cameron apologised to Murdoch's family and made a donation of £5,000 to the Murdoch Memorial Prize Fund.

Thanks a lot, DC. I made a new list based on your images rather than a character list. This is the new link:

December 19, 2017 completes the 20th anniversary of 'Titanic (1997)'. This is a good time to run this poll.

Dear poll admins, please see this message.
