Live Poll: Hitchcock Scenes that Give You Vertigo

Acrophobia, or fear of heights, is explicitly mentioned in Vertigo. However, director Alfred Hitchcock was notorious for using altitudes in other movies as well. In fact, he seemed to be spellbound by them and suspicion is close that in the mind of the 'master of suspense', physical high points and emotional highlights were linked together. From these Hitchcock scenes involving heights, abysses, and falls, which most likely gives you vertigo?List: https://www.imdb.com/list/ls041463195/Poll: https://www.imdb.com/poll/VgKNa6J8ZEE/

Great poll idea!  Of these, I've only seen Vertigo and To Catch a Thief, but all the choices are great.  My vote is the police falling in Vertigo.

I thought about the same two scenes but now with your suggestion I'm more confident to add them. Thanks, also for the alternative images.

This poll seems to combine a number of themes and motifs repeatedly used by Alfred Hitchcock that have several dozen poll appropriate example shots. The themes include Suspense, Vertigo, Falling Man, High Angle Shots, Prolonged Facial Close-Up among others. I added a few more images https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0047396/mediaviewer/rm1966566144, but I would recommend viewing the articles at the above hyperlinks to find plenty of shots that fit the bill. The challenge won't be finding plenty of examples, but in finding readily available images to support them. http://www.alfred-hitchcock-films.net/images/Vertigo-Motif-Foreign-Correspondent.jpg

What a great idea for a poll. And there are so many good choices, it's tough to choose. I don't understand "and suspicion is close," though. Oh my gosh, I'm not even particularly afraid of heights and just thinking of some of those images kind of makes me dizzy, lol.

There it is, a German expression sneaking into my use of English. That bit was changed.

Oh, cool, I learned something about another language. : ) I'm not proficient enough in any second language that any idioms could sneak in but when I was more practiced in Spanish and Russian, I always aspired to that -- honestly, I figured that if that happened, it meant my usage of those languages was getting to that conversational level that so often seemed to elude me. I knew to never aspire to that in Mandarin or Slovak because I was hopeless with those languages, lol.

I aspire to the same but I sometimes refrain from using specific idioms because it would look so strange coming from a foreigner. That reminds me of something. German poet Heinrich Heine went into exile to Paris, and he made a mistake by using an expression of his native tongue. When a Frenchman corrected him on that, Heine answered, „look, why don‘t you just accept this expression as a gift to your language?“

Yikes, considering Google Translate makes mistakes with Spanish, I hope the above is correct.
