Live Poll: Favorite Oscar-Nominated Best Picture Music Movie?

Which of these Best Picture Oscar-nominated music movies whose main character(s) are involved in the creation or performance of music* is your favorite? *composers, singers, musicians, managers, venue owners, etc.

For the purpose of this question, a music genre movie is defined as a movie whose plot is dominated by the performance or creation of music (vocal, instrumental, or mechanical sounds having rhythm, melody, or harmony). In contrast to a musical genre movie, which combines songs interwoven into the narrative, spoken dialogue, acting and sometimes dance. Those movies that have both elements would fit into the music and musical genres.

I don't know, probably a dozen suggestions like this one focused on nominees.

I realized when I made this suggestion PS: Best Picture Oscar Genre Diversity that a lot categories get overlooked, even though I found them to be interesting. Plus, the focus always seems to be on winners and not nominees, On average, one IMDb poll has been published a year focusing on Oscar Best Picture nominees. Oscar Best Picture Nominee Genre Polls  Family Movies : Foreign-Language Movies : Blockbuster Movies :  Horror Movies Most likely, because they are not easily searchable and a lot more work to create.

Also, hindsight is 20/20, but I noticed an error in your live poll. The R-rated Little Miss Sunshine probably doesn't qualify as a "family" film on your poll, Poll: Favorite Family film nominated for the Best Picture Oscar. Since R-rated movies exclude those under the age of 17, it is hard to make the case. In my opinion, a family movie is defined as any movie that contains children or relates to them in the context of home and family, as well as, being either G-rated or PG-rated. I would have posted a comment, but the link was dead.

I think it's only because of the climactic dance sequence that the film got that ridiculous rating, if anything, the film is an ode to family and the strong bonds that can go between members of different generations, a child should watch the film if only for the "Grandpa, am I pretty?" moment, followed by the "loser/winner" explanation. Why should that be only accessible for teens?

The film deals with death like any Disney/Pixar movie and the aftermath of the grandfather's death is treated rather humorously, as for the "sexy" dance, I can't believe those who came with that so patronizing rating missed the point almost comically, the whole thing is about Olive not realizing what she does and to some degree, her innocence is preserved and the 'raunchiness' of the dance is downplayed by the fact that she's joined by the whole family so they all do the same moves and they all immediately lose their impact, it becomes funny instead of shocking.

Yet it's true that what the film does brilliantly is commenting on the danger of underage over-sexualization through beauty pageants, so it's crazy to think that these contests exist and are accessible to children while a film like "Little Miss Sunshine" is not. I understand that technically speaking, it's not a "Family" film but for me, it's one of the best family movies of the last 20 years.

I agree, it seems fit the mold of dealing with "family issues" and is an excellent film. I do think the producers choosing to not edit and re-submit it for PG-13 rating or at least appeal is telling (R-rated for language, some sex and drug content). I think it was geared to be marketed for Oscar consideration and adult or at least young adult (H.S) ticket-buyers, excluding children. I can see the argument both ways for its exclusion and inclusion in the answer pool, as the MPAA rating seems to be an outlier.

I think we can simply use a "reductio ad absurdum", if the film has material that should be considered unsuitable for children then it is very problematic that the whole plot revolves around a child, not that children should only appear in family-friendly movies but little Olive is so integral to the appeal of the film that it feels rather awkward to make her such a big part of something not supposed to please kids her age. It's "Little Miss Sunshine", not "Eyes Wide Shut".

What was the rating of "Problem Child 2"? just asking?

Fair point, it seems to be more up for discussion than I first thought. I agree its  "Little Miss Sunshine", not "Eyes Wide Shut". The most convincing point is how the rest world rates it making the MPAA rating a outlier when looking at all the ratings.
