I suppose A New Hope.

Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope (1977) would likely be my top pick among the other Action Oscar nominees. I could see Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981) and  Gladiator (2000) filling out the top three in votes.

Added 2020 OSCAR NOMINEES Ford v Ferrari from the list of

Potential 2020 Oscar Best Picture Nominees

(TOP 50) 2020 Oscar Predictions: Gold Derby Predicts the 92nd Academy Awards

Ford v Ferrari 2019 | Movie 8.3 (64,800)

A Best Picture nomination for Ford v Ferrari (2019) in the Oscars 2020 Best Picture category would bump the total number of action Best Picture nominated action movies to at least thirty-six in ninety-two years. A notable mark for an award ceremony that over it history has demonstrated an aversion to action pictures, despite the genre's popularity and success at the box office.

Thanks, I would agree all three are excellent recommendations as films, They probably won't make the cut though as Action is a tricky genre category to navigate. All three aren't tagged Action on IMDb, even though they are (a common issue). As well as, would be likely tagged in another genre first, like War or Crime first.

An official IMDb search yields 33 titles tagged Action and Oscar Best Picture nominated Feature Film, Action, Best Picture-Nominated of the 565 total Oscar nominated films. Ideally, I would like to further restrict the answer pool to films that fall more into Action category than into any other genre category or conceivably are tied. The common Action/Adventure hybrid genre makes for some combination issues that makes the two difficult to separate in some cases or even properly classify, in the first place. Plus, there are some likely Action films that are not tagged as such and may have been omitted.

I see that these titles are tagged Action and have more than 10,000 votes, and you do have space for them.

District 9

War Horse

Letters from Iwo Jima

Thanks, I forgot District 9 after making a note to add it. The answer pool is not intended to be a complete list of all eligible search results. Movies that are classified as action, but are light on that element will be excluded.
