I removed the George M. Cohan biographical film, 'Yankee Doodle Dandy' and the Bob Fosse semi-autobiographical movie, 'All that Jazz' from the answer pool instead. But, I still will included those bio pics that are "loosely based", "highly fictionalized" or are less "fact than fiction" stories. 

@urbanemovies​ Hi Urb. Sorry, that's not what I meant: I meant that the films themselves are real. They are works of fiction but not fictional themselves. : )

I want to avoid biographies that feature bands or musical artist playing their popular music and fall into the music genre rather than musical genre. Music movies and the use of original music vs. pre-existing musical songs seem to be two types of landmines to avoid in the answer pool. Plus, there is a 21st century version of this poll suggestion @ Favorite 21st Century Jukebox Musical Fictional Movie and want the pools to mirror each other in scope.

Regardless, I think moving the term fictional to modify movie is clearer.

Which of these selected jukebox musical movies that features the popular music of real-life musicians or musical acts embedded into a fictional story is your favorite movie to rock out to?

I think a true-story or biographical jukebox musical is possible, but needs to have stringent parameters and would be better served as a poll suggestion on its own.

I don't think moving the word helps, in fact it's worse. Perhaps you can do without the word in the title since you have "fictional story" in the question.

M-W's definition of fictional says, "of, relating to, characterized by, or occurring in fiction". I'd say the movies are at least characterized by fiction.

I added the missing "by" to #2 and #5, and changed the text in #11 to "featuring African American artists performing renditions  of popular 1920s and 1930s songs"

Thanks, but Across the Universe (2007) was a movie made in the 21st century, it was not made in the 20th century. It was included in the 21st century version of this poll.

@riverotter​ I was considering them and others in the answer pool, but I think the argument could be made, both ways for inclusion and exclusion. First, I think they are considered more rock operas, than jukebox musicals. This was my main reason for leaving several rock operas out of the pool. Also, if the music is composed for the purpose of the movie, like in the Beatles' 'Yellow Submarine' or the Village Peoples' 'Can't Stop the Music' it disqualifies them, even if the music is released a year or two before. I think the spacing of six years between the Tommy rock opera album (1969) and the Tommy musical movie (1975) puts enough distance between the two, in the case.
