Live Poll: Best Movie with Multiple Villains

These films disregarded the conventional 'one antagonist per one protagonist' archetype and complicated their narrative by placing multiple foes at the hand of our hero.

(Please note: In order to qualify as 'multiple villains, each must be shown to have different motivations and thus work towards different end goals.)

Which of these films with multiple villains is your favorite?

Thanks Rocko! I'm glad you liked the idea.. I'm trying to stay away from films with villains who, as I stated, share a common motivating factor.

Solid pick, a classic that I'm sure will get a good amount of votes.

Would have been nice to see my favourite included; "Snatch." If it's an angle you enjoy maybe you haven't seen it? It's a must have film.

Although these have no hope of competing with the ones already on the list:

- Batman: The Movie (1966) Joker, Riddler, Penguin and Catwoman. It really was the first one that did that.

- Superman II - Lex Luther, General Zod and his team

- Batman Returns - Penguin and Catwoman

- Batman Forever - Riddler and Two Face

- Batman and Robin - Poison Ivy, Mr. Freeze, and Bane

All of Christopher Nolan's Batman films. There are a few horror movies that did the same thing.

I will add Superman II, but as for the other Batman films - I think you hit it bang on. They will likely not stand a chance in capturing the votes so perhaps I will let TDK represent the other Batman films, since it goes without saying that they all juggle multiple villains against the titular caped crusader. Thanks for your help Grang!

Not really. Golem wanted to process the ring as his own. One thought to use the ring against Sauron. But most of them fell into the flunkies who thought by getting the ring Sauron would grant them special favors category.

Thank you Ruby! You're compliments always make my day :) Btw, I remember you making a comment on my Most Iconic New York City Scene poll that you planned on adding it on the "Recommended Polls" suggestion of your profile but I assumed it just slipped your mind and you never got around to it. Did you still plan on putting it there? If not, I totally understand! Let me know!

Thanks for the vote Hyker - I somehow STILL haven't seen any of the three LOTR. Been waiting for the right open day to see all three in a row!

Kyle, suggestion, don't. They are three extremely long movies which will result in you getting sore from sitting there. Do it one movie a day. Or two movies one day and a third another day. It

I suggested this differently many years ago, suggesting the actual set of villains. I couldn't find the list because I wanted to check it in case you forgot some but never mind, i'll work on memory.

The Silence of the Lambs: Hannibal Lecter and Buffalo Bill
Batman Returns: Max Shreck, The Pinguin and Catwoman
The Green Mile: Percy Whitmore and Wild Bill Wharnton
The Jungle Book: Shere Khan and Kaa
Pinocchio: Stromboli, the Coachman

I'm sure there are many others.

Anyway, if you want to keep Back to the Future Part II, please, do it on the basis of Griff Tannen, but don't consider the other Biffs as "distinct" characters. I'm a huge fan of the trilogy and I believe Biff Tannen from Part II is one of the most underrated movie villains because he's evil at three different phases of life in the same film, young, adult and old.

You suggested this way back when? I guess great minds think alike :P

With respect to your suggestions, as I do plan to add them, you're sure that they follow the parameters I have set right? I want to exclude films like Kill Bill or Suicide Squad where the villains are all working towards the same goal essentially - they demonstrate similar motivations in their pursuit of the hero?

So all of your options follow this?

No, I didn't suggest this, it's your idea. My question was: favorite set of villains from the same film but separate villains (different motives, goals and scenes) I also suggested one about villainous duos (villains who worked together) so I remember the distinction, I'm surprised you're asking me this question. Haven't you seen any of the five I suggested? I mean even Green Mile, Silence of the Lambs or Pinocchio?

Another good one: Dr. Strangelove: Gen. Jack Ripper and Dr. Strangelove

ElM,

I have seen The Silence of the Lambs (1991), The Green Mile (1999) and the Jungle Book (both versions). Haven't seen Batman Returns and though I have seen Pinocchio (1940), it was so long ago I haven't even rated it on IMDb - I try and stay away from rating films whose plots, themes and characters have mostly escaped my memory. I do in fact remember the others, just looking for a fellow movie mind to validate them with :)

Strangelove's a great one — it'll join the bunch.

They're all valid options, trust me :-)

also check my Biff Tannen suggestion, please.

Sounds good! I've only seen the first BTTF, would you mind just listing the villains and I'll swap it in?

Sdk , there are a few more villains than you think in "Pinnochio". They are the fox John Worthington Foulfellow and Gideon the cat. In the movie, they sell Pinocchio to the Couchman and Stromboli. In the book, they also steal Pinnocchio's money by telling him there is a magic piece of land where anything buried in it and left there over night, it doubles when you dig it up the next day. They convince Pinocchio to bury his money and leave it to go to sleep. Naturally, while Pinocchio is sleeping, they dig up the money and run. That is the book and not in the movie. Also there is Monstro the whale. So add at least two more of those as villains in Pinnochio.

As much as I'd like to give my honest opinion on this poll, I'm afraid that all the movies on the list, with the exception of nos. 9, 12, 15 and 22, are my favorite ones, and I can't choose which is my #1 favorite.  Sorry.
