It's a big list. There are mostly all movies on the list, I can remember with Jeff Bridges. He's a cool dude for sure. What about Obadiah Stane in 'Iron Man'? It's one of the main recipes of the MCU to invite good actors to their productions. Obadiah Stane was a real intense bad guy. I think Bridges acted with favor for the role. At least I had that impression. Could you think of sacrificing one of the minor known roles to put Bridges' Obadiah on your list?

It's similar to my Nicolas Cage poll that released around a month ago and I've used 35 of his most critically acclaimed or well known. I completely forgot he was in Iron Man- I'm more a fan of the first half of that movie than the latter but I'll add it and get rid of a more obscure role.

James The Movie Guy, just curious: what you considered obscure enough to delete?

A movie called 'Texasville'- it has a 6/10 so it's ok but didn't quite make the cut. If I get requests for movies that people consider are some of his best, I'll try and find something to replace since you can only go up to 35 items for polls.

i liked 'texasville' alot, especially since it was a long awaited sequel to 'the last picture show'...but since you have the original on the list, i can understand it's removal...

by the way...my vote goes for 'the last picture show'...

I didn't even realise it was a sequel to 'The Last Picture Show' aha. Although due to the limitations of the list I believe it's best to leave sequels out- sometimes I put a comment saying for example 'Or Aliens' to signify that I'm not ignoring sequels.

Nice list overall, but my vote will probably go to one of my all-time favorite movies - Starman (1984). 1984 had so much great movies that this one, despite initial success is rather overlooked. For shame as it is a great, smart and inventive sci-fi film and a quite unusual one in the filmography of John Carpenter

I did like 'Starman' very much when I was 12. I remember - more than 30 years later - 'Starman' had a strong emotional impact on me. It's something you can't get only on a pure rational basis.

I'd say a lot of John Carpenter's films are overlooked- he's one of the best genre filmmakers of all time.

John Carpenter, while putting much thought into his movies, is also quite an intuitive filmmaker and that combination of thinking and emoting on director's part seems to create a true magic on film. And yes, he is one of the most underrated directors, writers and composers out there. Is also a nice character actor, judging by his cameos.

Starman (1984) is a magic on it's own even by Carpenter standards: most of the compenents of that movie were incidental, but they align so well that they create a very indescribable and touching experience.

My Best Carpenter movie is Escape from NY, disliked Escape from LA.

While NY is an (almost) undisputed mastepiece, Escape from L.A. is one of those movies which I enjoy and respect despite some glaring flaws. CGI was so primitive it gets perceived more like animated sequences (I've heard people complaining about t a lot, but seriously, why not perceive that way rather then as a failed visual effect? It actually adds to the charm) and it has some scenes which are so solid and bold (ending, for example), they could have put original to shame if weren't for rest of the movie being a cheesefest.

I agree with Nikolay, I enjoy Escape from LA- yes some of the effects are bad but Escape from New York had some obvious models such as the plane falling down which looks like it was made out of cardboard or paper. Both films are a great take on the dystopian genre and Snake Plisken is one of Carpenter's best characters.

For future reference how does one get those links? Which words need to be spell checked? I used the American 'favorite' but I can't find any others.

FYC: What abot the old fireman in 'Only the Brave'? I saw it at cinema a few month ago, just saw it again -  love it! Jeff Bridges is one of the few actors, who makes that movie serious. I admit, he has a minor role. And I also think the movie wouldn't be the same without him. It's great and not a one man show for sure - I love it.

Isn't it bad to be very famous on one special movie. I did like the dude very much. But I voted for his acting in 'Seabisquit'.

The Big Lebowski is in my top five favourite movies so it was a no brainer for me. Although he's had some other excellent roles like in 'Seabiscuit' as you mentioned
