And that's good. I always watch out for new stuff that seems unique. All the movies one my list are unique somehow. It's the same for your list. Well done. The cause why I picked these movies is, that the action in these movies is well stage managed and partly such hard action, that old movies can't compete with the action parts. And I don't talk about Michael Bay style. In Michael Bay movies there are only tons of explosions.

@Breumaster​   You say that the old movies cannot compete with the action parts?  Have you seen the first two on my list?  The two Indiana Jones movies that I have are full of several very long action scenes.  The spaces between those scenes are called "character development" and "plot."

Yes, I've seen all these movies, some of themseveral times. Most of them decades ago.

I didn't say they're bad. You're totally right with character developement and plot.

But when I really want action, they're lame ducks. 

E.G. The Raid: A fully equiped SWAT-Team in Indonesia is engaged to free a mafia-owned tower, which happens to be a city in the city, because it is such big and poluted with poor people that serve the mafia to get no troubles and perhaps for a little money. The main engine are the many thugs the mafia has installed. The SWAT-team has been trapped and then war breaks out. But it isn't fought only by riffles and granades, but also the ultrafast fists and feet of one special trained police officer. There are fights with fist and knife that are so fast, they make John McClane look like a happy dreamer in a wellness spa. It's dirty, way dirtier than the look of Die Hard. The action is rough, deadly, mean and mostly precisely target-oriented. There is also a plot with the counter-part, the Mafia boss that plays his game to bring the officers into trouble. Character-developement? Ne-Ye. Not really but much fun to watch the acrobatic fighting in the mean setting.

@Breumaster​   I have seen some of your movies.  I have never heard of The Raid films.  I didn't watch the Judge Dredd film because I find Sylvester Stallone painfully bad as an actor and just cannot watch his movies.  Add him to Arnie and other bad actors and that will explain why I didn't watch The Expendables.  I will admit to enjoying much of Starship Troopers, but partly because I read the original science fiction novel as a teenager.  I watched about 30 minutes of the first Kill Bill film and quit on it because I didn't care for it at all.  My son made me watch Nobody with him about a month ago and found it exciting, but full of plot holes.  I have seen the John Wick films with my son (he likes them, I think that the first one was okay and the series has gone downhill from there).  

I have found in my movie watching that I really enjoy good writing, good acting, good film quality, and good drama.  I tend not to find a lot of this with action stars like Wham Bam Van Damme and Keanu Reeves (the two worst actors of their generations).

The movie 'Dredd' I've suggested isn't with Stallone It's with Karl Urban as Judge Dread.

@Breumaster​   The original Judge Dredd was filmed in 1995 with Stallone in the lead.  I learned something new today as there was a remake/sequel made in 2012 with Urban.  If I had heard of it back when it was released (and I don't remember it), I probably would have avoided it because of thoughts of Sylvester.  I will have to look it up now.

It's ok. But don't expect to much ... I know you are a little picky. I did like it better. The one with Stallone is too less comic style, but also too less reality style. The Urban-movie sets more on reality style. Lena Headey is the hidden star of the movie. She does the villain Ma-Ma, hardened by what she endured, she built an empire on cruelty and control. Headey as villain is the best of the movie.

@Breumaster​   Yes, I am picky!!!!!  When you watch hundreds of movies a year, it takes something special to impress you.  When the best of the reviewers talk about director styles and Berkian form and other technical aspects of film making, I came to understand all of that.  Bad acting is the fastest way to turn me off to a movie or tv series and bad writing is next.

I understand that. I wouldn't watch the worst b*llsh*t without complaint. But sometimes when I see a concept that is unique, I'm mild in my verdict, like e.g. 'Hundrets of Bearvers', that simply lives from slapstick and a very simple story. It's unique by idea and style. Far aside the cheap mainstream.

At some point undedicated mainstream gets me awfully bored, like e.g. the felt last 50 action movies with Statham, in which he plays one totally interchangeable role. If I see such a trailer, I instantly know what not to watch! Liam Neeson also had some roles in the whole last 2 decades which I can only laugh about. A super high grade official that serves for secret agencies and can't protect his own daughter? Twice!??? No, that's BS.

When you look at my profile, I rated 5800+ titles. But I also watched movies before 2012, when I subscribed to IMDb. I guess I saw more than 7.500+ titles before. I know many of the old movies you know. Some titles I guess you know: 'Chitty Chitty Bang Bang', 'The Time Machine', 'Planet of the Apes', 'Quo Vadis', 'La Strada',  the old movies with anthony Quinn, Omar Sharif, Gulietta Masina, movies like 'I... comme Icare', 'Le Samouraï', many old french movies with Lino Ventura, also Heinz Rühmann or Marlene Dietrich movies and so much more, also from America. When I was young there was always a moderate ammount of American stuff on TV, even though we had only 5 TV-Broadcasts, - in some areas only 3. But the content was way better than today I'd say 60-80% interesting. And movies that were not interrupted by commercials. Commercials had their own time. Today we have plenty of Broadcasts, but I'd guess the content today by 10%-, every few minutes interrupted by commercials. That's why I don't watch any Broadcast anymore, just the yt-recordings of them.

That all doesn't keep me from trying new stuff, even thogh it might be disappointing for me. Often I watch a new movie I didn't see before against bad forecast to see the forecast proven. But sometimes I find interesting movies with that. Trailers also might be made worse than the movie so I don't trust too much in them. It can also run the other way. Good trailer, disappointing movie.

That's a very good question. But altough it's a very good question, I would let it stay as it is. As you see, people discuss, e.g. about todays quality of story telling in an action movie. I totally understand The OldJalapenoman. Many movie of today, predominantly in the main stream, get more often trashy in story than the movies in  in earlier days. Right. That doesn't keep me from watching movies that are made very good in another way. Both opinions can stand aside. They serve different audience aspects. I don't watch the movies from my list often, but when I really want one of them it's a feast to watch, everytime I watch them. I got to be in mood. So we get very different options, which makes it more versatile and interesting
