Instead, I think it might be more interesting to focus on Joker 2 alone and offer a few nuanced response options: “Liked it but not better than the first,” “It’s an insult to the first film / Todd Philips missed the mark,” and “I find it better than the first.”

This approach would not only likely yield the same result as a direct comparison, but it would also provide more insight into people’s feelings about the sequel and take the controversy into account.
