You could easily fill the list with actors who direct.

A lot actors who become directors, actors who are trying to get passion projects made, or actors who what to try directing will direct and act at the same time, either out of desire to do both or as a function of their contract to get the financing to make the movie in the first place.

The list is huge and includes Robert DeNiro in 'A Bronx Tale', Robert Duvall in 'The Apostle' Robert Redford in 'Lion for Lambs',  and Rob Reiner in 'This is Spinal Tap' to just list the Roberts alone.

I am thoroughly confused as to the theme of the poll suggestion and what qualifies as acting, based on your earlier comments and the current answer pool. A couple of these appearances are so minor, I would hesitate to call them acting. Scorsese with a few lines of dialogue in the back of a taxi, Hitchcock stepping on a bus, George Lucas' cameo in Revenge of the Sith are prime examples. Yet, there are full blown Oscar-caliber performances recommended above that are sitting on the sidelines. 

In others, the director had a larger acting role in an earlier work, like Peter Jackson in Bad Taste. But, your claim that you wanted to list directors earlier acting roles, before they established themselves as directors is not reflected in the answer pool options. There are few more listed I would question if they qualify as acting rather than a cameo, but I am not 100% sure about my facts. 

If you plan to keep the answer pool as-is (which is okay), I would suggest using the word ,"appear" instead acting, so it covers the full range of possibilites from cameos to leading roles and everything in between. Otherwise, come up with a set a criteria and stick to it, so the question matches the answer pool and does not have any glaring omissions.
