@cinephile Is that the car bombing scene? I never seen Touch of Evil but I'm sure I seen its opening scene if memory serves me correctly.

@Tsarstepan  Yes, it is the car bombing scene. It is a sequence shot, a real one if I'm not mistaken. It is also a textbook case of Hitchcockian suspense.

Btw, I'm pretty sure  Saving Private Ryan, as indicated by the synopsis, begins in a cemetery and not on the D-Day. An American flag back-lighted by the afternoon sun gently flaps in the breeze. The camera pulls back to reveal the Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial on the English Channel in the north of France. An elderly man (Harrison Young) approaches the cemetery and walks among the rows of gravestones, which are mostly marble crosses, with an occasional Star of David marking the grave of a Jewish soldier. He is accompanied by his wife, his daughter and her husband, and three teenage granddaughters. He searches the crosses and stops at a specific one, where he falls to his knees, crying. His family walks up behind him and tries to comforts him. The camera slowly zooms in on his face, stopping at an extreme close up of his eyes.

@cinephile You 're right I think. Because Saving Private Ryan is bookmarked with the cemetery scene.

I was going to write an essay (hardly 😅) but found this article online. Why Everyone Thinks D-Day Is The Opening ScenePlease read it if you've got time.In short: That scene was so impactful that I remember it as the opening scene from the movie. I hope I'm not alone in the IMDb poll board.

I agree that image is better, but all those name tags will look bad in the poll, as seen here.

The intro at the train station, when the bad-squinting Member of Frank's Gang  catches the fly with the muzzle of his revolver in the burning sun. 2001, the space ballet, no explanation required. The Dark Knight, the clown-heist.

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0133093/mediaviewer/rm2302712064/ The Matrix @BonaFideBOSS  This is the only picture I could find of the opening scene from the pictures of the movie. But if there is a better option, you can add it.

@nazmi_altintas  Isn't that the end of the opening scene? I believe: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0133093/mediaviewer/rm644651777/ is from the opening scene too.

@cinephile As long as the image is from an opening scene or it reminds us of the opening scene, it is accepted. Also, it is the only clear (HD) image from the opening scene currently available in the title's media viewer (gallery).

How long is an opening scene? I'm going to have a hard time figuring this one out. First thought Baby Driver ... or i was influenced by coincidence that YouTube happened to have recommended that opening scene earlier this morning. Would Up (2009) qualify if it's a 10-minute scene? Glad someone already mentioned The Dark Knight. Don't put anything down for me yet. I'm still trying to figure my nomination out. It's not like the IMDb advance search can suss out my feelings on this particular question.

@Tsarstepan Yes, you could choose an opening sequence as well. The scene I chose is longer than 20 mins I think and it is so good and has no dull moment that I don't even feel it is that long.

Thanks. I guess I'm going for the political assassination that's the opening scene to Ghost in the Shell (1995). Thermoptic camouflage!

The English dub is great. But FYI it might be slightly NSFW. It is NSFW and it isn't NSFW. Its a very ambiguously grey area.

I just wanted to point out that including the D-Day scene from Saving Private Ryan while acknowledging that the scene doesn't really open the film while rejecting The Last Scene of the Joker in your IMDb Poll Board: Favorite Batman Scene poll suggestion because it is "more about the Joker than Batman." is to me a double-standard.
