Watchlist: Refine by Netflix streaming availability!

Why can't my Watchlist be refined by titles available on Netflix? This has to be the most popular streaming content source! My Watchlist says that I have hundreds of titles available to stream, but almost all of them are available only as paid rentals. I'd like to know what's available in the service for which I've already paid!

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Suggestion: Add Network and Syndication Fields to the Details section.

I would like to see 2 new fields added to the Details section for TV Series:

Network (to display the original Networks that run the series)

Syndication (to display the current Networks where the user can actually watch the series)

Example: Criminal Minds - Network = CBS (current)
Syndication = iOn, USA, Netfilx, Prime, HULU
I'm sure I am not accurate in what I wrote above but hopefully you understand what I am getting at.

Hello, I just discovered your watchlist feature when I was searching for the movie Phenomenon. Looks awesome, can't wait to build one. Just wanted to let you know that I would personally watch a 30 second video in order to see which service might be airing it, such as, Amazon Prime, Netflix, Hulu, etc.. I understand IMDb isn't a streaming service itself but if you could clue me in without having to log in and type the movie name multiple times on a Xbox remote, 30 seconds is SO much more preferable. Do that and I'll put you on my phone! Heh, I'll probably do it anyway, but if I do I would then likely have the time to take a 5 minute survey at some point in my day in order to unlock a full day of ad-free use. Maybe that's just me but I doubt it!!! Anywho that's my $0.02. Love y'all!!

Eh? You can already do this, surely.

(From either your Watchlist, or via search), you open that movie/show's title page, then tap on videos section to see its trailer.

Presumably you mean the trailer... as that's where you sometimes see a logo for a channel in the corner or somewhere else (at beginning/end, channel may be appear).

The trouble is:
1. A trailer with the channel on it, may or may not exist.

2. It may show channel for one market (say, BBC for UK users), but not others (in US it might be on another service, say Netflix).

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Add function to enable speedy searching of streaming sites.

Does IMDB offer a feature where you can search for a particular film or TV show and it will tell you which sites are showing it for free or for rent? Because that would be very useful and save a lot of searching!

Could you add a Netflix filter for the watchlists? There’s one for amazon prime but a Netflix one would be really helpful.

Isabel: The difference is that Amazon.com owns IMDb, so there is a financial motivation for wanting to offer a filter for Amazon services but not Netflix services.

should be a filter by imdb, also for disney+

Why doesn’t IMDb show what channel or streaming service a series is playing on?

Within the details section of individual episodes there is a place for the Release Date. My suggestion is to add another field in details that says what platform it originally aired on.

Example 1: Star Trek: Discovery Season 1 Episode 1 "The Vulcan Hello" has a Release Date: 24 September 2017 (USA) in the details section. Add a field below saying it was originally released on CBS All Access.

Example 2: Scrubs Season 1 Episode 1 "My First Day" would say originally released on NBC while Season 8 Episode 1 "My Jerks" would say originally released on ABC.

This could also be used to find all shows that are currently running or did run on Netflix or Amazon or Hulu....

Especially, now a days with so many places to see shows or movies, it would be amazing if the original place to view was listed, maybe under Details, since there is an Original Air Date/Release date feature.
I see commercials all the time for new shows or people tell me to watch something, but it can be hard to find the platform or channel it's going to be on. For example the show Psych was originally aired on USA network, and I've seen things for a new movie from the show (Psych 2: Lassie Come Home) coming out on Peacock. It would just be so great to have that information located on the site!

Good idea. I'd take it a step farther. For any series currently being aired, whether new or in syndication, show the network.cable channel or streaming service that's running it. That would be a big help any time we try to find one after reading or hearing something motivating about it.

I was thinking that too, but didn’t want to be too greedy!

Amazon owns IMDb and so Amazon Prime links are seen when an entry is available there.  Amazon doesn't own the other channels and streaming sites and so availability of IMDb titles on those platforms aren't advertised.

This information, if the IMDb has it, would be found in the Distributor section. I don't think it's available on the app but can be seen on the main site.

Company credits for Psych:

Lots of streaming filters on IMDb now—some Amazon owned and some not. Still no Netflix.

At this point in time, I wonder why IMDb is holding out?  Or could it be Netflix who is holding out... withholding their API?

I think it would be a win for everyone if the two could work together.

I’m not sure that’s the difference. There are many streaming filters that IMDb has provided that are non-Amazon owned.

Hi all!

I created a website (vidchuck.com) which can refine your IMDb watchlist by Netflix availability, Just paste your watchlist URL or upload your exported watchlist.

It works for 50+ different countries. If there's enough interest, I might extend it with other streaming services.

It's still in beta, so if you spot any glitches, please let me know!

WOW, this is brilliantly simple! And works on any list added as CSV, I've tried. Thanks a lot.

Yes adding more services would be excellent.

Presumably it uses your current IP as the searched country? So if one changes their country (via a proxy/VPN) then you'd get results for a different region...is that correct?

Also, it may be useful to add a function to only show available titles. As if the list has thousands on it, going through the few available titles is somewhat cumbersome.

But otherwise 10/10!

Yes, that's correct.

In case your IP is in a country that I don't support (yet), you'll see a warning message. If you don't see a warning message, it means I'm supporting your country.

PS. Thanks for your feedback!

Another tip for Mac users...

Save the webpage as a .webarchive file in Safari, then you can offline it for future reference.

(even QuickLook "cmd+spacebar" on said .webarchive files, can then open tapped-on available titles in Safari, for example.)

Obviously, it'll need re-doing, as and when the available catalogues change over time.

Hi Melody! Yes, adding other streaming services (incl. Hulu) is definitely on the roadmap. I can't promise if'll be days or weeks before it's available, but I'll make sure to let you know once its' there!

Wow, great work! So it now does three:

International: Netflix

US: Hulu, Showtime

I suppose we really need Amazon PrimeApple TV+, Disney+ (all international), sometime. ;-)

Hi all!

I know it's been a while, but I just wanted to let you know that my website (vidchuck.com) now supports most of streaming services.

IMDb has also partially implemented it, but it's still very limited:
- only available via the mobile app, not available via website

- IMDB's mobile app can show you streaming availability for each of your watchlist's titles, but you can't apply a filter, so you still have to go one by one through all titles to see which one is available e.g. on Netflix

@jkukul Again, really great work!

Three Two One other that comes to mind, that you might be able to add...

1. The Criterion Channel

https://www.criterionchannel.com

One that heavy film fans certainly are into!

2. BBC iPlayer

https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer

3. BFI Player

https://player.bfi.org.uk

While the first is US-specific, and the latter two are one is UK-specific, but they're all readily accessible using VPNs – and are used by many internationally.

Criterion is amazing (as good or better than) Mubi for non-mainstream film.

BBC iPlayer features a film section, as well local and international bought-in TV (much like All4, which you already added).

BFI Player features sought after rare films and short films, large selections of both classics and underground/arthouse films.

Thanks again. ;-)

EDIT 1: Oops BFI Player is there, hence striked-through.

EDIT 2: Oops Criterion Channel is there is there (when switched to US region!), hence striked-through.

@jkukul Ah yes, sorry – I had to use VPN to change region to US before I could see it.

Might be an idea to allow us to quickly manually change region search using the top-right corner "Region:" box, or similar. ;-)

The proposed feature seems to have been partially implemented in regards to Hulu and Tubi. So, the technical capacity for it to be done with regards to Netflix streaming service specifically may be just over the horizon, such as simply a matter of both the Amazon company and Netflix company wanting it.

What does this mean?

IMDb now indicates whether or not some movies are available on Hulu, Tubi and some other TV/phone apps, Amazon plugins or Roku channels. The only example I recall off the top of my head at the moment, however, is Woke. Understand?

205 Messages

My understanding of where this info is found...

- On the website (browsers): you can see it under "Distributors".

- On the mobile apps (iOS/Android): you can see it via "Country of origin">tab "Where to Watch".

So "Woke", for example shows: "Prime Video" & " Prime Video (Rent or Buy)" when you hit the "Where to Watch" tab – the first is part of your free subscription stuff.

But when you tap on either of those tabs, it still doesn't take you to the title in the app. You have to manually go and search for it. Not difficult, but somewhat half-baked.

Do I have that all correct?

Does it work well? And if so, for users in what countries?

This is for US & UK only, currently.

AFAICT, you cannot import any IMdB lists into it though. So you have to manually search specific items you're after, or otherwise browse what they're showing as available.

So good to know, but no cigar! :-)

I find it odd that the subject heading of this thread is identical to another much older thread of a different type. Should I be asking "why" that is the case? Could the other really have been that hard to find?

Unfortunately sprinklr doesn't start by searching for their subject before they create a post (as the prior forum did).

The body of the post is identical too.

At this point, it may make more sense for inquiries about the prospect of such feature to be directed at the Netflix company. I see that IMDb's watch options system is integrated with Apple TV in addition to Hulu, Tubi and Crackle. Unfortunately, the option hyperlinks do not point to title-specific pages external to IMDb.

I've noted coverage additionally for Paramount/CBS, Epix, Plex, Pluto and numerous others. At this point, I'm starting to notice which somewhat prominent sites and streaming service channels are not integrated, in that maybe Roku, Xumo, Vudu, Popcornflix and Viewster may stand out. I don't what is going on with Viewster, but apparently for a while it has only existed as collection of YouTube channels. Speaking of which, one of the YouTube company's YouTube channels (YouTube Movies) is a special interface predicated upon the buy/rent/free-with-ads model just like the streaming services of Amazon and Vudu. Naturally there is occasional duplication in YouTube Movies with customer-generated regular YouTube uploads, a chief example being Night of the Living Dead, a film in the public domain. Vimeo's on-demand service has not adopted a "free with ads" mode.

Right. as there are still Disney Plus and Vudu to consider. In the case of Vudu, unfortunately, it resembles most greatly a competitor to Amazon Video (Amazon Instant Watch), with rental options and purchase options, as opposed to a membership-based access without per-title pricing.
