Title Pages: Add bigger thumbnails to cast lists on title pages

Hey IMDb, love the website. In regards to the "Full Cast and Crew" section you see when you search a movie or a show, I was hoping you could make the thumbnails of the actors/actresses a bit bigger so we could actually see them. It makes it easier to identify actors from a film if you could see their pictures clearer beside their names instead of clicking on each name individually. It's pointless putting tiny thumbnail pictures beside each of the names if its too small to help you identify them.

A 0.33 inch by 0.24 inch thumbnail makes it difficult to identify an individual. However, increasing the size would reduce the number of entries per page.

Perhaps, the IMDb technical staff could allow users to hover over the thumbnails to see a larger image so that they do not need to visit the page.

Alternately, make the thumbnail size a user selectable option which can be selected on their Site Preferences page [https://secure.imdb.com/register-imdb...].

Yeah, they could fancy it up even more - have a dynamically generated box appear when you put the mouse over their thumbnail (and/or name) with a larger picture and their known for.

A bit like you can do here, in fact.

Actually, if you check on IMDb Pro, they do something like that.

If you hover over a name they bring up a box with Primary Name and StarMeter in the Header, with the Headshot (about 4x the linear dimensions of the one in the filmography), Company, Profession, Known For, and Also Known As in the body. Obviously any item that they have no data for is suppressed, except the headshot which is replaced by the dummy shot.

They do the same for the Titles in a Name page filmography. In this case it shows the Title, MovieMeter and Country/Rating/Length in the Header, with the Poster, Genre, Summary, Production Companies, Director, Writers and Producers in the body. It there are more than will fit (3 or4) in any section they add the phrase "and x others".

This is an excellent feature, and since it is already coded it should be relatively simple to adapt to the basic pages.

Emperor, that would be great. The IMDb Technical Staff could do something similar to what is already done for Names lists. For example:

Exactly, I often open up a new tab from a cast list to try and figure out if they are the person I think they are - this'd save a lot of time and effort switching between tabs and the like.

That gets a bit +1 from me.

I also open up another tab just to see who a person is. Most of the time, I only want a summary of who a person is. I've already given this a +1.

Yeah sometimes I'll need to look through someone's filmography to know exactly which film I've seen them in but only last night I had to open up a couple of actor's entries where the summary (and perhaps a larger picture) would have made the penny drop.

The sage MayorDefacto sent me this PM. I am quoting it with his permission:
A Firefox extension named Thumbnail Zoom (find it here: http://andrez47.github.io/thumbnail-z... ) already does the job spectacularly, http://i.imgur.com/hPu158e.jpg. The example is extreme, most headshots are of the 3x4 inch to 5x7 inch variety. In addition to headshots, poster and gallery image thumbnails, and even user avatars, are enlarged to full size on hover. Additionally, delay and image opacity are user adjustable. The add-on also works with thumbnail images on 19 additional individually selectable sites: Facebook, MySpace, Amazon, Tagged, Last.fm, YouTube, Imgur, Twitter, LinkedIn, Picasa, PhotoBucket, Wikipedia, Daily Mile, Photosight, Twitpic, Hi5, Flickr, deviantART, and Google Images.

If you have grease monkey, this is a pretty useful script (http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/1...)

Bigger pictures in cast and crew list.

I'd love to see bigger pictures of cast and crew in the list you see in a regular web browser. The current size makes it closeto impossible to distinguish faces - I have a good eyesight.
Thanks for considering.

Why not just a setting like on blu-ray.com?

Cover size: large | medium | small | thumb

simple !

Imagus is a Chrome extension that can magnify thumbnails when hovering.
It is highly configurable and supports a wide and extensible set of websites, including IMDb.

What would make IMDB even better?
Love IMDB . but i often find myself with an image of a actor or somebody else in my mind. I want to find out who they are. I go to film cast lists and see all those thumbnails. I have to open each entry before I can see the face. Unless I manually zoom the page which is drag as it makes navigation difficult) I would love it if, when just hovering over a thumbnail, a pop up would appear - say of double / triple size of the thumbnail so I can quickly see if that is face I'm looking for. Coding for this should be easy

I use the iPad app more than the desktop site because its easier to see the actors pictures on the iPad app. Any way to make the pics bigger in the site for desktop? If not, I would like to suggest it for future development.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Larger cast member photos are needed.

When viewing cast members of a film, the thumbnail photos are way too small. This is problematic when searching for a particular actor/actress as it is a hassle to fully open every bio to verify the photo. A hover/enlarge feature is needed for cast photo thumbnails.

Exactly what I wanted! Thumbnails on the Android app are bigger than the ones on the site.

How to I send a feature request to IMDB. It is on the size of the thumbnails. You can't see who is actually on them. I amazes me that they have had them so small for all these years. It isn't practical.

You can't identify people on those images. The list of cast have images so small that you can't make out who is on them.

I see many people have brought this to the attention of IMBD

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Title Pages: website icons are too small.

Hello, I love what you've done with the mobile version, however, when I log on to see things from a computer or desktop, I notice that all the icons and pictures are way too small. This happens when you go a results page, or just a movie cast page, you cannot see who is in the picture. Even when I zoom in manually the pictures just become pixelated. Is there something that can be done with the website version. Just revamping it so that everything is bigger?

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Title Pages: The actor's images are so small!.

I use IMDB to look up actors all the time (and have for years), but sometimes do not know their name, so I rely on the actor's images -- but they are too small!  I would really appreciate it if either the actor's images were significantly increased in size, or an option to increase their size temporarily (if the size messes with the rest of the content on the page).

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Title Pages: Increase size of cast photos.

I want a way to scan through cast photos for a show or movie at a size where I can clearly recognize the faces so I can identify whichever cast I can member I'm looking for by sight.

Probably 80% of the time I come to IMDB I'm checking to see if an actor or actress that I've just seen in something is also in another movie or show that I recall.

In that situation, I rarely know the name of the actor or actress. But the only photos are these tiny thumbnails, and to actually see clearly who it is I have to click to their individual page. In a series like Orange is the New Black, with pages and pages of actors, that's just too time consuming, and it makes the site barely usable for what I'm sure is a very common purpose. If there were an option to view them slightly larger, that would help soooooo much.
