The new layout communicates a very simple message:

"We don't care about the experience of desktop users. We don't care whether they use our site or not."

The only reasonable response is to not use the site.

FYI folks, IMDB is now just deleting popular comments criticizing the design.

This is almost certainly the reason for the gradual rollout, to keep the backlash at a stream instead of a flood, so they can manage it.

Stunning contempt for the users on display here.

What makes you think we are deleting comments critizing the design? This thread is full of such comments; a small number have been deleted when the poster has used excessive bad language or resorted to personal attacks, but that's it (see https://contribute.imdb.com/charter). In one case an account has been removed entirely for going way too far.

It is also possible some people have retracted their negative comments.

If I wasn't "removed entirely" from existence without any explanation and warning because apparently posting 2 comments after 2 days was not an acceptable frequency of posting, and then treated like trash and my questions and posts about it after that that asks for clarification to know how to prevent being treated like that was erased, locked, burned, buried instantly without any explanation or whatsoever, I was gonna almost believe the honesty of above post.

Of course nothing I posted had any of the things mentioned above. And the only response I got regarding it after pushing it was akin to a "we can do whatever we want" and "2 posts in 2 days" was somehow being an unacceptable frequency.

Let's see how long it will take to bury or ban this. At least the person who's right with their "Stunning contempt" observation would see it in their notifications.

The preview for WhatsApp is no longer working! It's annoying to send a link to someone with no thumbnail or hint about the movie. Please solve this. I have iOS but could be a general issue due to the new website layout.

With the old interface, you just hovered over the plus sign, then clicked on the list you wanted the movie added to.

How do you accomplish this with the new interface?

The preview -when sharing a IMDb link in WhatsApp- is no longer working! It's annoying to send a link to someone with no thumbnail or hint about the movie. Please correct this issue. I have iOS but could be a general issue due to the new website layout.

@mr_dooms Thanks for the problem report.  Just to confirm that you are on the IMDb site at https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1979320/ and you are on Safari (or another mobile browser?) on your iPhone and you are using the browser's share option to share via WhatsApp to produce the results above? Which version of iOS do you have installed and which model of iPhone?

I'm sorry if this has been asked before, but the site is 'clunky' and doesn't quickly autopopulate items in search and viewing items after searching is hard to see with items in the background under transparent text. It's slow and feels laggy now. Definitely something wrong, and I know it's not just me. I found someone else on Twitter asking what the issue is lately.

I thought I'd bring this to the attention of the powers that be who can look in to this, or receive comments for advice on how to pick things up. I have already cleared my cache, logged out, restarted, but it's only the IMDb site and no other that is such a drag to load now.

Windows 11 is a major release of the Windows NT operating system,
announced on June 24, 2021,
and developed by Microsoft.
It is expected to be released in 2021,
with Windows Insiders being able to upgrade to Windows 11 for free

After the release of Windows 10, Microsoft officially stated
that it would be "the last version of Windows".
The operating system was considered to be a service,
with new builds and updates to be released over time.
However, speculation of a new version or a redesign of Windows arose
after a job listing referring to
a "sweeping rejuvenation" of Windows was posted by Microsoft.
A visual refresh for Windows,
developed under the codename "Sun Valley",
was reportedly set to modernize the system's user interface........

The new format, I couldn't find the release date in the main entry for a movie. That's a very disturbing loss.

@zsbernst The release date is still included, please see -> https://community-imdb.sprinklr.com/conversations/imdbcom/introducing-updated-imdbcom-title-page-experience/60a40631c1307254c6cc1b0d?commentId=60a94c2393de84003be61bf0&replyId=60a9eb7ffad48e7959855522

Note that we are looking at ensuring the release date is always present in the same position if the title has yet to release specifically in your country. At the moment it is only displayed at the top if the title has not yet released anywhere in the world.

Hope this helps.

@Col_Needham

The release date is equally important for movies and TV shows that have already been released, for a number of reasons which I would be happy to list if necessary. What is the harm in providing that data at the top pf the page for everything? In fact, it would be easier for your editors to do this rather than spending time moving these dates around. "Data" is in the title of and the key element of your website and it should thus be made as user-friendly as possible, where the easy availability of facts should trump design considerations. Another aspect of the website that is lacking is information on the duration of TV show episodes. At the moment, some pages do not provide this information while others are incorrect. This data should also be provided at the top of the page.

After the design overhaul, Release year is not shown for "More like this" in any of the movie listings. Check this as an example. Its true for the whole site.

yes, i did. Do you know if you click on the movie name it would also show the year? Whats the use?

I can understand wanting the year next to the title.

I can imagine others wanting the runtime.

And others wanting the stars, or the director.

Clicking on the Info icon gives all that, without loading a whole new title page.

Ehm! Mr. bderoes, what people want now was already there in the previous page version. The new one lacks sooo many elements that you should dig here and there. What is NOW needed was there in the old (and useful) layout.

Of course, if I understand what you're meaning. Otherwise, have my apologies.

The interesting thing is that a JSON equivalent of the basic information that would be found on a title page is loaded each time. The fact that a way to query for such information exists could come in handy for other purposes. Kind of reminds me of a certain aspect of IMDbPro. Maybe I ought to smile. I don't know yet.

33 Messages

@bderoes there's a reason people like simple UIs instead of flashy ones. You get the critical info at a glance. I have been a voracious movie watcher since I was in college and IMDb always has been my go-to database for a decade. If I have to click every single time I need to view just the year of release why wouldn't I just blindly google things instead of coming to IMDb which used to have useful information handy and didn't try to be like "Facebook"?

For the love of God, please let IMDB what it was meant to be and not make it a social media page.

I really can't pinpoint a single thing I find useful in this design. Earlier I could rate a movie with a single clink, now it takes 3. The genre used to be available near the movie title on any page but now you have to scroll down every single time.

@subratjain1 If you are a contributor, you should find the advanced contributor's view which can be enabled on the site preferences page will better suit your needs. From https://help.imdb.com/article/imdb/general-information/site-preferences/GDL9NWJRKWRH5L6K

Contributors: Show reference view with full cast and crew - This is an advanced, data-centric view built for our top contributors and is not recommended for general use, as it is deliberately missing many IMDb features.

Hope this helps.

Hi @Col_Needham no it doesn't. It's not just about cast and references. Instead of contributord view can you please simply offer the old view save us all the trouble?

After the new changes to the site. Top 250/Bottom 100 credential is not displayed in individual movie listing. I have noticed that if linked awards are not displayed the listing also misses the position in Top 250/Bottom 100. Check the following movie for example. It sits at 18 in bottom 100 but it doesn't appear in the listing.

@subratjain1 Thanks for the feedback.  The Top 250 position is still present in the awards banner on the (250) appropriate titles, for example, from https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0111161/

However, we are no longer displaying a title's position on the Lowest Rated Movies list. This is a deliberate decision vs. it being a bug. The Lowest Rated Movies list remains accessible from the site index and from the links on the Top Rated Movies list

Hope this helps.

HI @Col_Needham , Thanks for the reply. You guys are changing a lot of stuff that we users over about the site. This is really sad. I don't know what is becoming of IMDB. I hope this can be reinstated. Moreover. what if a movie doesn't award have any award to show? WIll it still show the top 250 banner? Also, could you please check this: https://community-imdb.sprinklr.com/conversations/data-issues-policy-discussions/movie-titles-not-displayed-in-english/60bde309a4586b59556b6086

@subratjain1 You asked:

Yes the awards banner should still show, although it would be quite rare for a movie to be in Top 250 and not have any other awards.  Do you have an example where this not the case?

Hope this helps.

I don't mind the new design, think it just requires some getting used to.

However I found that it was a quite difficult locating how many seasons a certain series has, I had to ctrl + f to find it.

Looking at number of seasons is something I use quite a lot when looking for new shows but it's tucked away in a very small link that you have to scroll to find where it was previously readily available as soon as the page was loaded.

@Martin Thanks for the feedback, this information is available in the "Episodes" section as you have spotted. We will flag this suggestion to the team as there is space to include a season count at the top in a desktop (full size) view.

You can put just one image of the trailer and when click popup window for watch the trailer...

more easy and faster for watch and load the web

Is important the year movie at the side of the title or more bigger,

and country and original main language (no is in the first part of the web, is very low an sometimes are so many languages you no know what is the original and principal)

Sometimes the new website is slow

The new layout is VERY VERY bad ; All the text is in one GIANT line and I have to use the horizontal scroll

at the bottom, to move it (say) 10 pages sidewards.  There is also TONS of open spaces when scrolling up/down

There is no multi person comments. Just one. The cast list is missing. The photos in circles are not great.

The "smoothing" algorythm for interpreting spelling mistakes was so good ; now fails badly

All of this is with Firefox. Firefox can't change the wrap. Chrome is a lot better but Firefox is my default and

so all imbeded links to IMDb, call Firefox.  Is there a switch or whatever, to recover the old (GREAT!) format ?

@DANE  Thanks for the feedback. The new title pages should work fine in Firefox, so please see the advice in https://help.imdb.com/article/imdb/general-information/why-is-imdb-displaying-differently-on-my-browser/GF2ZAR69V859XLHF particularly note the point on ad blockers and perhaps try viewing in a private browsing window.

Hope this helps.
