Live Poll: Westerns That Aren't Westerns (Or Are They?)

This is a somewhat unusual poll idea (for me, anyway), because, instead of starting with a few examples and seeking out suggestions, I actually started off with a very long list and I've been trying to whittle it down to the maximum number of 35. As of now, I've got it down to 36, but I'm torn between which example to use for the film-noir category (Ace in the Hole vs. Touch of Evil).

The basic idea is an exploration of genre, specifically, the Western genre, and of films that lie just outside of the parameters of what's defined as a "Western". The only rule: none of them can be officially recognized as "Westerns" on IMDb, but they all must have some sort of connection to the genre.

I'm open to suggestions if anyone thinks I'm missing something essential, or sees something I could combine in a different way. Please let me know if you notice any proofreading mistakes or have suggestions to improve the writing.

If this poll idea is successful, I plan on following it up with another genre - Horrors That Aren't Horrors (Or Are They?).

Looks good. There is sometimes a problem with activating polls with a lot of text or links, but we'll let you know.

@Peter_pbn I may be able to trim up some of them if necessary. I tend to get pretty wordy when I'm writing.

Sorry for the wait,

As suspected, the poll software failed to push your poll because one or more descriptions are too long. You could cut some of the intro in the list and keep it here in the post. The error may also refer to the text and links under each option. Since you have linked to the longlist perhaps the links are not all needed.

@Peter_pbn I think the issue is probably with the length/amount of words more than anything else. I've seen examples of polls with multiple links on each entry (like this one), but I can't find any examples of live polls with multiple paragraphs per list item. I'm gonna see if I can find some time to work on it this week. I might just cut out the detailed descriptions and links entirely.

@Peter_pbn

I deleted a couple paragraphs worth of excessive verbiage from the intro description and removed the written descriptions and "see also" links from the individual titles, leaving only the brief genre and setting designations. The individual descriptions have all been moved to a separate list, which is linked to in the intro description. Hopefully this will work as a solution, please let me know if it does not.

I wish I had noticed this sooner, but I made an error in one of the descriptions. No Country for Old Men is supposed to take place in the 1980s, not the 2000s. I've fixed the error on the original list; if there's any way to update the poll, I would very much appreciate it.

@timothy_gray_el34lojg1aih1 It can be corrected. Since you have already edited the original list, all you have to do is add your request in thsi thread: https://community-imdb.sprinklr.com/conversations/imdb-poll/faq-poll-authors-repush-requests/5f4a7ad08815453dbabc3d05, we'll check and if there are no issues it will be updated.

This certainly looks like a pretty egregious case of vote stuffing. Twin Peaks just shot up from 2 votes to 23 votes in the span of less than twelve hours. Is there nothing that can be done about this?

I clicked on the profiles of each of these voters, and in the past five weeks, they've all taken the exact same polls in almost the exact same order. These "users" need to be reported or something.

@timothy_gray_el34lojg1aih1 ,

I am investigating the vote stuffing and will refer the problem to IMDb staff as appropriate.
