Titanic Face-Off: Could Rose Save Jack?
It remains one of the most successfull films in history, and as such, Titanic is not free of controversy.
In the climax of the film, Jack sacrifices his life to save Rose letting her stay afloat on a door while he remains half sunken in the waters of the North Atlantic until he freezes to death.
For years, movie lovers have discussed if it was possible that Rose could save Jack, or if his sacrifice was necessary, is time to settle this.
In your opinion could Rose save Jack in Titanic?

It seems settled, both scientifically and creatively. But, I agree it would hard to be objective about a life & death decision, in the heat of the moment. I always thought that both knew and it was just left unsaid?

You may find information that will help you in the National Geographic special, Titanic: 25 Years Later with James Cameron, beginning at 24:12.
However, Cameron has argued that Jack's death was necessary in order to strengthen the almost mythical love affair between the two. “Jack needed to die,” Cameron said. “It's like Romeo and Juliet. It's a movie about love and sacrifice and mortality.
Indeed, even at the end of the NG video, Cameron says, somewhat wickedly, "...so, based on what I know today, I would have made the raft smaller, so there's no doubt!"

Maybe, but it would totally destroy a romatic love story. I want to keep Jack and Rose in my mind as I saw the movie first. Not every Myth needs to be destroyed. :D
