Live Poll: Favorite "The Sopranos" Character

Widely regarded as one of the most influential TV series of all time and a key element to start the so called Second Golden Age of Television, The Sopranos is also one of the best rated TV series in the IMDb.

Tony Soprano, is for many one of the best characters in the history of television, but he was not alone in making this show.

Besides him, who is your favorite The Sopranos character?

FYC,

1) I think some of the darker images could be upgraded. I uploaded some to the media indexes for you to choose from and hyperlinked the media indexes below.

Possible Add Charmaine Bucco ???

(3seasons main chararcter, 1season recurring character, 1season guest and 1season no appearances)

2) I can see you are aware of the controversy surrounding this so-called Second Golden Age of Television. I think the phrase an era known as Prestige TV would be less controversial and better encapulates the era The Sopranos started, when so many networks invested in high quality signature series that would define them, after they saw what The Sopranos did for HBO.

3) I am always hesitant to call the something the best, greatest or the top. I can see you are too with your qualifying: one of the most, a key element and one of the best qualifier. That said, I don't think I ever seen a candidate with such unanimous consensus covering so many different aspects. TV Guide, Rolling Stone, the Writer's Guild and a lot of others all say repeatedly it is the best TV series ever without reservation. IMDb users are surprisngly the harshest critics placing it at number ten currently (chart below shows it history on IMDb's TV Top250 since the TV list was created in 2015). Personally, I am more comfortable using the phrase "in the conversation for the greatest" for something I think is the best, but concede not everyone may agree.

4) I took at stab at your introduction, feel free to pick out any parts you like from this alternate take. I like how you transitioned from Tony to his fellow cast members to the question.

Ever since it debuted, The Sopranos has been in the conversation for the greatest TV series ever created. The groundbreaking HBO series started an era known as Prestige TV that saw a large influx of high quality programming on television to start the new millennium.  Critics widely regard it as the most influential TV series of all-time.

For many viewers, Tony Soprano is one of the best characters in the history of television, but the show's ensemble cast played an equal if not greater part in the show's success.

Besides Tony, who is your favorite "The Sopranos"  character?

@urbanemovies I changed some images and took your description. English is not my first language so any suggestion to improve my texts ar always welcome.

I put the minimum appearances to make it into the list at 20 to make room for Nancy Merchand and Joe Pantoliano. Charmaine Bucco and Brendan Filone don't make that number, and I don't think they are famous enough to be competitive.

@Pencho15 Your English is far better than my French or Spanish. Glad to be of help. I agree an episode count is the way to go. I only looked at their status as a main, recurring or guest each season. It is an imperfect approach on the borderline calls. I still think two images #3 and #9 could be better, but the ones you have are passable, they are just a bit darkish for my taste. I displayed two choice below with links, or you might see something in the gallery you like better (screenshot).  I think this poll suggestion is complete, otherwise.

Its a great idea, I am shocked it hasn't been done before.

@Pencho15 Looks good to go. The 25th anniversary is less than a year out (January 10, 1999 - January 10, 2024). I will have to put some thought into a poll marking the occasion. For me, the sequel movie was dissapointing and not a fitting tribute to its origins.

@urbanemovies I wasn't aware the anniversary was coming, this would actually be a great 25th anniversary poll, I posted it too soon.

I never watched it in its original run, and I'm barely enjoying it, so that's what inspired me, I am currently watching season 4. Unfortunately the ending is so famous I already know what is it, but despite that it is indeed a great show.

@Pencho15 Yes, it would be a great poll for the upcoming 25th anniversary. Usually, the anniversary date of the first episode's airing morphs into the national days, like Star Trek Day or Game of Thrones Day for fans of a particular series.

I was thinking there would be a International Soprano Day and that you missed it by a month (January 10, 2023).  IMDb could alway make it their main homepage poll the week of January 10, 2024, if it was already an existing poll and give it a little more legs votewise. My take, I think it should be published sooner rather later. You can always come up with an equally great idea between now and then for the 25th anniversary, if you so choose.

@Pencho15

FYC, this is probably obvious, but I will mention it anyway. If you plan to take advantage of the upcoming 25th anniversary, You could add as your lead sentence, something like "On January 10, 2024, 'The Sopranos' will celebrate the 25th anniversary of its first airing on HBO.", as well as, sprinkling in phrases like, twenty-five years or past quarter-century to emphasize the milestone throughout the paragraph.

The show premiered on HBO on January 10, 1999. FYI, the 25th year anniversary is about fifty days out.

@Pencho15 Happy 25th.

My vote is for Silvio Dante.
