PS: IMDb Pollboard's Most Regrettable Villains

Intro:

In Hollywood's history villains always took a big power in the making of a story. Villains are one of the most powerful sources of story-driving. Sometimes a villain is forced from his life circumstances to be like that. Some of them suffered bad conditions over their whole life, while others are blackmailed by even worse characters to act like they do. On a humane basis it's regrettable how they were forced into their position, sometimes.

Which of these villains, picked by the IMDb poll board users is the most regrettable?

Tell us here.

Suggestions:

Superhero or other dramatic heroes, which are forced to do so. They should really be characters, which are forced by circumstances or at least stronger illnesses/diseases. No TV-Series, no animated, no documentations. Real life villains ok, but I'm priliminary aiming for freely invented characters. I'm trying to reach 24-26 options, not more. If there are more, I'll take the best. If there's a flood, I'll try to open a second poll idea. If there are less, then it's ok to release it earlier with less users. A maximum of 3 characters per user. No ghosts or other appearances and no reapers, or reaping persons. P.S.: I rise it to 3 picks per user.

Would you like to be the other side of the medal and suggest the heroes poll?

We could link each other's poll afterwards. ;)

I've put your suggestions on the list.

That's what I had in mind. You can also be creative, if you want so.

It's a good idea you had to reverse it, so why not doing it?

Thank you for suggesting. I detected a little problem. I explicitly excluded tv-series, so I won't take images from TV-Series, except when there are no better images in movies. In the case of Loki, I changed the TV-Series-image you gave me the Url, with a way better showing image from 'Thor: Ragnarok'.

Thank you very much, Brijesh. These are excellent picks.

I wonder why there are no better images for Two-Face on the site, but ok. ;)

Sorry, mario. I missed your suggestion. I've put Dr. Phibes on the list. He is a wonderful pick! Why do you think Zé Pequeno aka Li'l Zé is a good pick? I had the impression he enjoyed it from childhood on. Or is it that? Did you pick him because he had no one who grounded him when he was a kid?

in my opinion, the message of the film is that he is the product of an evil heartless society

Ok, I'll put him on the list. Even though there could be a flood of characters like him. I don't want to think about Gotham in that connotation. ;)

If you want, you can pick a third one. I stated it in the rules later. I'm curious about.

any Frankenstein, any werewolf, any zombie, any Hyde/Jekyll character is actually an eligible regrettable villain. None of them has control over his status. I'm from a time when Hulk was a regrettable villain, not a hero like today. He would go berserk and destroy everything not recalling anything after the re-transformation...

Definitely, Michael Corleone from The Godfather Part II

He didn't choose to mix up with the family business, they tried to kill his father, he had to protect him in the hospital, then he was the only who could approach the very man who would have tried to kill his father again, so he had no choice than killing him... then his brother died, his wife died, his father's health was fading out... he was the only possible successor... he didn't chose his path and is certainly the most regrettable villain of cinema's history, a villain he becomes in Part II.

On 'The Godfather':

I don't think so. In the same turn, he took over all the family business and meanwhile enjoyed his childs baptism. He didn't just safe his father, he also killed a lot of people in the same turn. And he himself has chosen to be the successor. He learned from his father, yes. But he could  also have turned away from families ties much more earlier, if he wanted so. His father wouldn't have killed him for that. He would only have been disappointed - and there still was Fredo, who could have taken his advantage. So he would have got rid off Fredo without spoiling his own Kharma. But he enjoyed it. This fact is obviously when I consider how easy he has overtaken his father's empire and how rigid he lead it from the first minute. He wanted to be like that, it's a bad quality of his personality. Only in the third part, when he turned old, he realized what he caused. When he saw his daughter grown up and the old mafia rules were gone. At last he regreted - too late. Which costs his daughter's life. But who would regret him at that late state?

There's nothing that he did that wasn't :

a/ a way to prevent someone from his family to be killed

b/ a retaliation following the killing of someone dear or a murder attempt against himself of someone dear

c/ a necessary move because it's either him or the other

Never joy or a personal quest for power, all he ever wanted to do was protect his family and make his business legitimate. No murder or crime he ordered wasn't motivated by either a, b or c.

Beetlejuice (1988)

and hire a malicious spirit to drive them out.

@ACT_1

Very funny, ACT_1. Beelejuice is no human or alien, or other beeing. He's an appearance from the grave. I wouldn't count him to heroes or villains. He simply is what he is, he has an extra position in the netherworld. I think I'll exclude ghosts and appearances as well as the reapers, because it's lesser a matter of their own necessities, but more a life-death-moral-kharma thing over all.

@CyrilMartin

Hi, Cyril. Have you got a second one? I've put your suggestion on the list. Lensherr was brutally forced to be a villain when he was really young. That's fitting very good. I took a more fitting, more symbolic explaining image why he was forced into being a villain. Because many people who may haven't seen the movie in which it was explained, would ask themselves why I took him. The image with the coin is very symbolic so I picked that one. And there are lesser good explaining images for Erik Lensherr's vita. Ok, Magneto is on the list.

Hey Breu, yes the picture seems more fitting to your list.

I thought I had many characters in mind but can't quite remember maybe because of the ongoing exam tension🙃 , anyways I'll get back to you if I remember any more options.

I see it's a little low on suggestions.

So I rise the ammount of suggestions to 3 picks per user.
