PS: Face-Off: Jane Bond vs. Indiana Jane (Ready)

Which franchise character would you most like to see in a spin-off feature film of their own and the one you think is the most likely to be successful?

James Bond's Nomi, aka "005"

vs.

Indiana Jones' Helena Shaw, aka "Wombat"

Top 100 media franchises, James Bond and Indiana Jones, both recently had their long-time male lead actors retire from their decade-plus residence in the title role. In the latest installment from each franchise, moviegoers were introduced to two new franchise characters, Nomi and Helena, that seem primed for spin-off films from the existing franchises.

I know the Broccoli family sold the rights to Amazon. But given their infamously (or famous depending on your perspective) stringent and dogmatic belief that Bond will never be a female, I suspect that this condition was baked into the sale of the rights to the franchise. Making this entire thread/poll suggestion moot.

Indiana Jane by default.

@Tsarstepan

I don't think you understand the suggestion, it is not about a female assuming the role of the existing lead character, but being one of several expansions of the existing franchise universe that could be spun off into their own storyline. These spin-offs will feature both male and female leads in an effort to broaden the franchises' appeal and demographics, but all will be centered on profits and increasing the franchise's future monetary value. This model has already been proven with the expansion of the 'Star Wars', 'Star Trek' and 'Game of Thrones' franchise universes. The key is to add value without damaging your core poperty, a la "killing the golden goose".

I get that it could be confusing with the simplified title, which uses the media propagated nicknames for both characters, James Bond's Nomi, aka "005" (Jane Bond) and Indiana Jones' Helena Shaw, aka "Wombat" (Indiana Jane).

FYI,

Amazon's Plans for the James Bond Franchise

Creative Control and New Ventures

Amazon MGM Studios has gained creative control over the James Bond franchise following a joint venture with the franchise's longtime producers, Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli. This partnership allows Amazon to oversee future productions while maintaining co-ownership of the franchise rights. The deal was finalized in March 2025, marking a significant shift in the management of the iconic series.

Future Film Projects

Amazon aims to bring a "fresh" take on the James Bond films while respecting the legacy of the character. Although specific details about upcoming projects have not been disclosed, there is speculation about the potential for prequels, spinoffs, and origin stories. The studio is committed to honoring the franchise's history while exploring new creative directions.

Streaming and Expanded Universe

In addition to films, Amazon may develop a longform streaming series based on the Bond stories, potentially starting from "Casino Royale." This approach could introduce new narratives and characters, expanding the Bond universe across various media, including novels and comics. The goal is to engage a broader audience and create a continuous Bond storyline that resonates with both new and longtime fans.

Conclusion

Amazon's acquisition of the James Bond franchise represents a new era for the series, with plans for innovative storytelling and a commitment to its rich legacy. The future of Bond looks promising as Amazon explores various avenues to reinvigorate this beloved character.

Possible Bond Spin-off Films & Episodic Series

  • Q Branch
  • Moneypenny Diaries
  • "00" Agents (featuring "005")
  • Felix Leiter
  • Young Bond

As for the Indiana Jones franchise, it is interesting that they killed off Indiana Jones' son, Henry "Mutt" Williams, born Henry Walton Jones III,  and introduced his goddaughter, archeologist Helena Shaw in Dial of Destiny. This seems to be a change in direction, after 2008’s Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull suggested a big future for him in the franchise, when the movie ended with Mutt picking up Indy's fedora and placed it on his head. Likely, this has more to do with the actor Shia LaBeouf who plays Mutt, than the character himself.

FYI

  • Shia LaBeouf's character, Mutt Williams, died off-screen in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, preventing his return and setting up a different storyline.
  • Mutt's death led to the divorce of Indiana Jones and Marion Ravenwood, creating a major change in their relationship.
  • Phoebe Waller-Bridge's character, Helena Shaw, replaces Mutt as Indy's sidekick, bringing a new dynamic to the film and strengthening the chemistry between the characters.
