* The 2026 Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Variety Series merges the previously separated categories for Outstanding Talk Series and Outstanding Scripted Variety Series. Both late-night talk shows and scripted variety programs will compete head-to-head again for the first time in eleven years, since the categories were split in 2015. However, the return of the merged category does allow for multiple winners in the same year, depending on the number of submissions received in each format.

The 78th Primetime Emmy Awards (2026) honors the best in American primetime television programming from June 1, 2025, until May 31, 2026. The awards ceremony will be hosted by Mariska Hargitay on Monday, September 14, 2026, at 5 PM PST / 8 PM EST from the Peacock Theater in downtown Los Angeles, California, USA. The ceremony will air live coast-to-coast on the NBC broadcast network and stream worldwide on Peacock.
