Live Poll: World Bicycle Day (3 June)

🚴💨

The United Nations proclaimed 3 June as World Bicycle Day, acknowledging the uniqueness, longevity and versatility of the bicycle, which has been in use for 2 centuries, and that it is a simple, affordable, reliable, clean and environmentally fit sustainable means of transportation, fostering environmental stewardship and health.

Which one of these movies featuring bicycles is your favorite?

You might want to do another movie search with different cycling terms or for different types of cycling. You have a lot 500 or less IMDb-voted movies and lots of more well-known movies that have a major to minor cycling theme that are not listed. I am not sure what your threshold for inclusion is???

FYC, more minor plot points as cycling is important, but not a major plot device.

The bicycle seems to be a recurring theme in award-nominated shorts and features. I listed a few already, plus you have some listed already. Those that are unlisted include:

Thanks for the suggestions, I included some of this shorts films in the poll.
I included a note in the introduction too: Note: Only movies or shorts with more than 1K votes.

@GabrielFox I think the quality of the answer pool is a far improvement. Still, I think think this one, 'The Triplets of Belleville' (2003) is a no-brainer and a must include movie, as it all about bicycles, well-regarded and well-voted.

I think some of these others would be (for me) better choices over some of the movies more about sports doping than cycling (i.e. The Racer) or the films where cycling is more cursory in the movie. I like Red's Dream and Me and My Moulton the most and think they deserve a second look. To a lesser extent, I think 'The Shining' is a better option, than 'The Postman', where the cycling is a more supporting plot point, IMHO. I also don't think the weaker sport doping movies options will get many votes, when listing the top three will suffice and garner most of the lists in that segment. It is better to have a more varied answer pool, IMHO.

I also think bicycle is often used as a generic term used for all types of cycles, including unicyles, tricycles, velocycles and velocipedes. So,  I would consider out of the box considerations that have more than votes going for them, but are still very cycling-centric.

A Unicycle Short about dreams & aspirations, 2nd Pixar ever made

Another Noteworthy Bicycle Short about a folding bicycle and about parents sometimes do know best

I also think 'The Shining' (1980) cycling scene is probably one the top 25 cycling scenes of all-time. It features a tricycle and has alot reasons for inclusion, IMHO.

I am less enthused about the Bicycle Gang subgenre movies, maybe check too to see if there are movies about bicyclists who perform X-Game style tricks.

I think the First Ridley Scott & Tony Scott Movie is noteworthy.

As would be listing one the Earliest Bicycle Movies ever made (ie Bicycliste (1896))

@GabrielFox I agree, just movies and short films.

I like the end result for the most part. It is a very strong, varied and cycling-centric answer pool with some of the most revered and well-known films in the genre.
