Poll Suggestion: The Most Iconic Movie Poster Featuring a Catholic Saint

Throughout cinematic history, filmmakers have attempted to capture the ethereal nature of sainthood on screen. But sometimes, the promotional artwork alone tells the whole story.

For this poll, we are looking at films that meet two strict criteria:

   -The movie’s title must name a specific, canonized Catholic Saint.

   -The official poster must feature distinct religious iconography (habits, divine light, stigmata, specific attributes, etc.).

Spanning nearly a century of cinema—from the haunting silent-era expressions of 1928 to the atmospheric character studies of 2026—these posters showcase how the visual language of faith has evolved in Hollywood and international cinema.

I have carefully selected exactly 12+1 nominees for this list—a highly significant number in Catholicism, representing the Twelve Apostles and spiritual foundation. Which of these 13 movie posters do you think is the most visually striking or perfectly captures the essence of its titular saint? Cast your vote and let's discuss your favorites in the comments!

@AlbertoMazarro,

For your consideration:

Becket (1964)

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0057877/

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0057877/mediaviewer/rm639181568/

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Becket

Thomas Becket (/ˈbɛkɪt/ ), also known as Saint Thomas of Canterbury, Thomas of London[1] and later Thomas à Becket[note 1] (21 December 1119 or 1120 – 29 December 1170), was an English cleric and statesman who served as Lord Chancellor from 1155 to 1162, and then as Archbishop of Canterbury from 1162 until his death in 1170. He is known for his conflict with King Henry II over the rights and privileges of the Church and was murdered by followers of the king in Canterbury Cathedral. He was canonised by Pope Alexander III two years after his death. He is venerated as a saint and martyr by the Catholic Church and the Anglican Communion.

In the poster, Saint Thomas Becket of Canterbury is wearing the primary ceremonial garment worn by priests, bishops, and cardinals during the celebration of the Mass. This garment is called a Chasuble.

Some of the descriptions don't match the posters (or any poster). Perhaps the chatbot invented them?

There is also a problem that IMDb displays different posters to different users for some titles. One option could be to link to the poster images for reference. Another option is to make an image list (although image polls display square thumbnails while title polls have poster-format images).

@AlbertoMazarro

I received a notification that you posted a reply. Unfortunately the reply is still private and I can't see the image.

If you try to change the site language settings while viewing your list, you may see the posters changing.

Regarding the text, do you for example see a wooden staff in the poster for option 7, St. Peter? Do you see a cross-shaped light in the sky in option 8, Ignacio de Loyola? Do you see candlelight in option 10, Chiara?

@AlbertoMazarro

It might be that it can be counted to my lacks in English, but I don't get the idea of the poll. It seems to be very specific. Can you please explain the core in a few words? Maybe i'm too far from church, meanwhile.

Just a selection in a topic (I like) and see the evolution of art posters during the years...

I order the options cronologically and I think this can be observed how the "taste" has changed along time

It seems that this suggestion got lost... There were a couple of suggestions about Saints after this one that got approved... Anyone got a hint on what turned this out?

@AlbertoMazarro It's due to Peter's comments above. If you use titles different voters may see different posters. So this should be instead an image list to guarantee that every voter sees the poster you mean to include in the poll.

Francis of Assisi:

looking toward the heavens while surrounded by the nature he patronizes.

What nature?

Mother Teresa: add a period and space after "Saint of Calcutta".

San Pietro: remove the word "holding".

@Peter_pbn Thanks a lot for corrections... For Francis os Assisi, I've changed that sentence to "... surrounded by references to the Fifth Crusade".
