Hi edwardhedelius1.

Welcome to the poll board. I saw your Thread and recognized in one look that the title is incomplete. We normally put the subject of the poll idea in the title to be recognized at first look. I suspect this to be your first poll suggestion. Here are many nice people to help you, if you need help. I guess Dan, Jessica, Pencho, Peter or some other of the admins will also write a line or two to welcome you. Dan is a big fellow and made up a very useful guideline for making polls. You can read it here:

‎FAQ: So You Want to Make an IMDb Poll? Here's How... | IMDb Community Forums (sprinklr.com)

If you got questions, it's always good to ask.

Till then.

I dont follow you, and no this is not my first time.

Are u applying I should make a new post and remove "Poll suggestion" as topic?

I dont notice any errors

@edwardhedelius1

I'd suggest to remove the quotation marks and add a title which describes the whole issue. I wouldn't put a question mark into the title. For example the title could be:

Poll Suggestion: The Most Unexpected Plot Twists

or

Poll Suggestion: Movies With Most Unexpected Plot Twists

That would be a title everyone would accept at one look. Another thing is to search in the poll board, if that title for the suggestion already exists. If there already is a title, which is to close or exact the same, an admin will mention it. No double titles. Ideas which are too close to already existing polls will predictably not go live. With the lines of Dan, you have a very good chance to do good polls.

And the guideline I found pretty outdated and I read it as I made this poll.

And who are these people you are referring to, should I know them on first name basis?

This is a community wich bases on positive communication. The admins are very nice and helpful. And they do help very much. The guidelines are still valid for making polls. You said you were on the poll board before? Obviously not as edwardhedelius1. Which polls did you make? Or am I right, when I guess it was another poll board?

"... but got banned out of nowhere ..."

I'm wondering about that. The guys here don't bann someone without reason. The times I got that someone was banned always was on occasional reason. I know there was a guy who was nasty and trolled others. He was banned totally righteously.  When I was weak in English language I was also rough some times, but it was more about language dificulties. Still got no problem here. Nice guys, really. I guess there are three things what may happened. Unregistered technical difficulties, a totally misunderstanding or you did something that stood against the rules in here. Here may also be underage people around. Did you use tough swearwords? No go.

I will copy paste the answer I got from tech support and ofc i dont use swearwords or any discrimination or anything like that, I think it had to do that I answered a question wrong, insane if you ask me. Here follows:

This is Jon, IMDb's customer service agent and I am happy to assist you!

Thank you for your patience!

Our tech team let me know that they observed inappropriate behavior in your account in the community and that's why they cannot reinstate the account.

We appreciate your understanding, stay safe, stay healthy!

Thank you for telling so openly. I can't tell you what went wrong. I guess I didn't even get what happened. In my memory they banned a guy because he was offensive. But normally the don't bann no one for no reason. We have a very positive community. Mostly all are helpful and respectful

I got one more hint for basic poll writing. It's also necessary to put a back-link in the intro of the poll.

You can do by writing:

Tell us [link=URL of this site]here[/link].

(example)

Instead of URL of this site, you put in the link at the adressfield at the top of your browser to link back to this site where we write now.

@Breumaster Wheres the intro in the list that I should link this suggestion?

8.8K Messages

 •

@edwardhedelius1

The intro is the field where you wrote:

Which movie contains the most unpredicted change in expected outcome of the movie plot?

Just the question-mark at the end is missing.

Under the line you wrote:

Tell us here.

(Could also be another line, but has to contain the backlink-URL)

Please use the syntax like you did in your first poll idea [link=URL]text[/link]

URL = the url of this site

[link=URL] First part of the syntax

inbetween the text

[/link] Second part of the syntax

You should know how it works, because of your first time you did:

It has to be klickable for the user.

Thank you for making the edit. There is just one bracket ] missing before "Discuss the poll here.

The bracket has to be set direct after the last character of the URL. Otherwise it won't be clickable. Then it should work.

Great! That works. Now it looks close to fit. I still don't know, if this poll was done before, so I don't know if it's accepted, but I know there is one little thing you still can do to make it look better. Usually we don't ask the question in the title and then re-ask it in the intro. For your consideration I would suggest you to cut the question in the title of the list (on IMDb) and take the same title like in the suggestion. That makes it easy to find with one look. I'd suggest to cut the title of the list down to:

Movies With Most Unexpected Plot Twists

Then it's about to wait for suggestions, other corrections from the admins and the best thing: being chosen for going live. If you want to know, if this idea was done before, (which usually is to be done before working out the idea), you can search here in the forum with (in that case) words like poll, twist, etc. But it looks very much better now. :D

One moment, the back-link doesn't work. Is the bracket direct on the last character (f) or is a space inbetween the f and the bracket? If there is a space inbetween the last character of the URL and the bracket, then it doesn't work. It would take the space as a part of the url, which isn't.

Now the link works. Thank you. :D

Let's wait for suggestions and corrections. I'm still not the best in English. I learn, but still have to trust on the verdict of the admins. Jessica often proofreads the texts. She is verry fit for that matter. It's a community thing to get polls going live. I like your idea, let's see if there are suggestions. If you want to hide the text of the suggestions because of containing spoilers, you can do the same like with the URLs: [spoiler]option-text[/spoiler] (exact syntax necessary) to hide the text of an option and let the user who votes choose for himself to read by hovering the mouse-pointer on it. If you want to do it, use the syntax within the option(s). When telling twists it can be helpful to not spoil the voters. It's annoying to get the twist told before watching the movie.

Fantastic help, will try to hide spoilers RN, and for your own knowledge your english are fantastic and nothing to think about, if you have the contacts later on I would very much like to now why I got banned before because of inappropriate behavior because that does not match my moral.

Thanks again

You're welcome. I try to be helpful as I can, but I'm not so into it like others. E.g. I can't help you with the banning thing, because I'm not so into it and I have not the authority to decide what's to do. And I don't have the insight about the processes. I'm a plain user. Maybe you'll ask Dan later.

"Oh my God. I'm back. I'm home. All the time, it was... We finally really did it.  You Maniacs! You blew it up! Ah, damn you! God damn you all to hell!"  Planet of the Apes

I wont pick a quote from the Crying Game.  It is a surprise ending, but I find the movie reprehensible.

What about Saw? The ending was really vicious and unexpected at the first time I watched it. Bone chilling.

Jigsaw reveals that he is living and was all the time in that lost place with them both and then says: "The key to that chain is in the bathtub." (yt / the revealing beginns at about 3 minutes)

Then the chained Adam Faulkner-Stanheight remembers he pulled the plug of the bath tub and the audience can see how the key vanishes in the drain in a backflash. And then afterwards Jigsaw reveals the background of his game . When Jigsaw leaves the door you can hear the strong cries of Adam.

I was really close to change from American Psycho to Saw actually, love the increasing intensity throughout the movie and the ending aswell. If I choose to add it, what quote would you like?

When I have you on the thread, when will the admins make their choice to make this a poll or not?

@edwardhedelius1

You can also keep American Psycho and add Saw, too. As long as it doesn't exceed 35 options it's ok.

If you'd ask me, I'd add the quote I suggested. "The key to that chain is in the bathtub." That's the first he sayed when the "dead" Jigsaw stood up and Adam (and the audience) realized that he was alive all the time they were in the lost place. That was direct following the twist and the moment when Adam realized that he is done, because he pulled the plug of the drain and the key vanished. So he couldn't escape from the place and at the end Jigsaw closed the door. What a bad dog! Ugly him.

P.S.: It doesn't depend on me or the options I suggest. Sometimes it's a matter of occasion, e.g. if the poll fits the events that happen. Around the time the Oscar's are presented, you have the best chances by doing a poll which is about the Oscars as a subject. At christmas, a christmas poll has good chances. At easter maybe an easter-poll would fit to be chosen. Around halloween horror movies or TV-series have the best subject. It's better to make such ideas at least 2-4 weeks before.

Beside that, it's always an advantage to give the poll-idea an fitting and interesting form like yours is now. If you have too less options (1-5, not more) it's better to make a face-off. The face-offs are released on mostly each friday. If you want, you can also look around on the discussions of other polls. Maybe there is an interesting idea of other users you would like to join. ;)

I guess there are poll suggestions in a three digit ammount each month so it can take some  time until the poll goes live. Please be patient. I for myself have 200 polls live. Getting my first poll going live took some time, I remember. I got around 200 lists, which are still pending. ... each day there are 3-4 polls released, normaly. It's always good when other users take notice of you. It's a good sign, when more different users suggest options on your idea.

P.S.:  If a month is over and no one reacted you can also write a *bump*-message to bring it up again, but please don't over-use it. From time to time it's ok, but we had times when several users did the bump every day or week. That's annoying.

Other movies would be

The Machinist - the confession.

Lucky # Slevin - the revealing of the game.

Primal Fear  "There never was an Aaron, Counselor."

The Sixth Sense

Psycho - not good to with quotes in that case.

Scream

The Others

I must admit that I would have to watch the movies again in English to get exact phrases in Englisch. Maybe I got time, maybe not, but these movies have pretty good twists. The major twist in Primal Fear was "There never was an Aaron, councelor." I linked the scene.
