Why on earth would anybody be influenced by an actor?

That's probably a question to their millions of fans.

How John Depp - Amber Heard case got so much attention, is a testimony of why they influence others so much.

News shows need to sell advertising, and they know people like to watch train wrecks, that's why it was in the news so much. It's not the same as "influencing" people. I don't think/hope anybody's really dumb enough to be swayed them.

Well, that is kind of like asking why anybody would copy off or mimic an actor, why anybody would be inspired to live a similar lifestyle, why anybody would treat an actor as a role model. Folks, perhaps like me, who would never do things like that are probably incapable of understanding, and yet I'm usually not curious even in the slightest to know the reason for people being influenced. I just accept the situation as it is and always has been, mostly.

People do get influenced. Both sides of fans started a social media war to favour their star. Even for someone who are not fans, got curious about the trial, so much so that they would follow each and every detail. Things that come to news sometimes become a dining table discussion. It's not that they would do anything what the actors do, but it influences their day-to-day activities. People formulate opinions, try to pass judgements, take up arguments. Some people (like you and me) will just wonder why do they get so much attention while watching the news.

The situation with Johnny Depp and Amber Heard was somewhat phenomenal in the sense of it being rather unimportant to anybody besides few more than the two directly involved yet being afforded so much media attention. Perhaps attention was unavoidable because of the big time studios' extreme reactions to a few remarks made by Heard, basically having an somewhat uncomfortable effect upon the Pirates of the Caribbean (Disney) and Fantastic Beasts (Warner) media franchises. Depp is an acting legend, so I'm somewhat more familiar with him. I was never much of a big fan of Heard, perhaps merely a budding fan, but I did feel sorry for her, on account of Deep being notorious for not always having the best attitude. He probably proceeded with marriage without requiring a prenuptial agreement because he knew how surly his moods could be at times. Of course, it has long since been revealed that Heard may not have been a person of good character throughout the past several years. I mean, she turned out to be the violent one, but maybe her antics averted any possibility of Depp retaliating in ways more extreme than the belligerent household demeanor documented and used against him in a tort claim. Seemingly he never laid an aggressive hand on her. Anyway, I do wonder if environmental social governance (ESG) ratings factor into the situation of what constitutes being "influential", that perhaps the studio corporations' motives were guided by adverting the prospect of negative public reactions.

Personally, I didn't spend much time evaluating the lawsuit trial. The whole thing mainly served to reveal the truth, a verdict, as would be expected of any fair trial, regardless of being a spectacle or not. I wouldn't even really be bothered in Johnny Depp chose never to work for the studios of Disney or the studios of Warner ever again, because in a way, they're unworthy of exploiting his greatness anyway. Maybe he could strike a deal with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM) or Columbia/Paramount, or hell, Amazon, Apple, Hulu or Netflix even. Maybe cancellation begets cancellation. As for Amber Heard, I should hope that she can at least return for one sequel to Aquaman. While she has not yet risen (assuming she ever world) to be an acting legend like Depp, she is very good at it, and seemingly this silly spectacle of hers can be forgiven.

As to the overall contents of the items of the poll, I'm thinking there is some level of ridiculousness that Depp, Heard, Smith, Rock and Pinkett even became the subjects of large volumes of search engine queries. I can sort of understand the scandal with Miller, though, since there are seeming still a lot of unanswered questions surrounding his alleged misconduct. If he committed the same crimes that Polanski did, then he certainly needs to be hauled before a court of law. Whereas if his supposed affliction only exists in his mind and instinct, then the public ought to settle for merely keeping an eye on his behavior.

IMO, just like politicians, popular stars should take responsibility to present themselves in a nice manner because a lot of people see them and follow them. IDK if anyone really knows who is right or wrong but it's what we see in public determines our perception towards them that will then eventually make or break an actor's image. Even a little mishap and you will find yourself in a bad situation, take James Gunn for example.
