Actually, Mission: Impossible is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year. The original series debuted on September 16, 1966 on television and ran for 171 episodes. It was revived for two seasons in 1988. Later on, Tom Cruise attempted to destroy an incredible television series with his batch of lousy films (he makes Jim Phelps, the hero of the television show, into the villian in his first film).
So, this may be the 30th anniversary of the Tom Cruise led ego-fest of movies, but it is the 60th anniversary of the title.
Give me Mr. Phelps, Barney, Willie, Cinnamon, Rollin, Paris, Lisa, Briggs, and his crew any day.
Yes, I do feel strongly about awful remakes, reboots, and sequels.
