Poll Suggestion: How Many Languages Can You Speak?

There are people who know a language other than their mother tongue because of their school education, their job, being part of an international community, or their desire to learn something new.

O, something like one and a quarter, for me. Becoming fluent in a language requires having other people to speak with in that language. To be fair, learning to pronounce the words read from a script isn't as hard as having an ear for interpreting a foreign vocalization.

Spanish - native and English as second language. I studied Polish for a year just for the fun of learning something new, but I can't say I ever really spoke it and I have forgotten a lot.

I speak French, English, and Arabic, specifically reading and writing classical Arabic and speaking Moroccan dialect. Four years of Latin have given me a basic grasp of Spanish and Italian, but I don't see myself as a polyglot.
In Morocco, most people know two languages (usually French or Spanish and Arabic) or even three if they include Berber. Plus, these days, English is very common and accessible. To me, being a true polyglot means knowing at least four languages.
Take Omar Sharif, for example: he could fluently speak Arabic, French, and English, and even did interviews in Spanish and Italian with ease.
