Live Poll: Happy Birthday, Werner Herzog!

Intro:

Werner Herzog, a German director known for the exhausting working-relationship with the nerve-racking difficult actor Klaus Kinski, turns 80 on September 5th, 2022. If you want to know more about their relationship, please watch this documentation: Mein liebster Feind - Klaus Kinski (1999)

Beside these exhausting episodes, Herzog did many more movies, which are all interesting in different ways. He surely can be called "a Münchner Kindl", which means "A child of Munich" in common Munich language. He is an exceptional director many people around the world appreciate. And he did some really good documentaries.

Which of these movies would you consider to be his best directed?

Tell us here.

Suggestions:

If you got a special likeable movie of Werner Herzog, please mention it. I prefer movies, but would make an exception for TV-series here. I would have to change the intro  for it.

May it be that it's fix for September 5th? It would be a nice tribute to him.

When I was about 8, I saw Aguirre in a "1001 Films You Waltch" type of book. I remember reading the line: "I'm Aguirre, the Wrath of God, who is with me?" I had no clue about cinema, but the line captivated so much that I remembered the title of the film. Last year, I got the chance to see it. It is a fantastic film, in my Top 50.

The other Herzog film I have seen is Into the Inferno. It is a also a really good film.

I wish I could watch more Herzog films.

I didn't see all of the list, but saw Herzog in original language in one of his documentations and can state that from what I heard, I feel that he is a very calm guy, the complete counterpart of Kinski. I like his way and what he did in his filming life, even though I'm affraid of (his counterpart) Kinski. That guy was completely nuts. People around the world like Aguirre, but I think it's the wild behavior of Kinski, which causes that. He was completely unpredictable, completely non-stable. I think it wasn't acting in the common sense of acting, he was more like an unstable reactor. Hollywood teached us that insanity can be bounding, isn't it? Think of Hannibal Lecter. ...

P.S.: ... in the sense of the character. Hopkins seems to me like a very stable and set man. Kinski wasn't. He was restless, somehow.

He had anti-social personality disorder. But, I don't know how much that affect performances, his personality disorder must have helped him craft his characters, but at the same time, he was an excellent actor.

Channeling your mental health issues to give some of the most intense performances musn't be that easy.

I saw some interviews where he insulted mostly all participants in filmed or recorded conversations. He must have been an awful colleague for them who had to deal with his unpredictable outbursts. Near his end, he had the mind that he would be a messenger of Jesus, while he ranted and insulted people who came to his show. And yes, his movie performances were impressive. For a poll about Werner Herzog, mentioning him and his work is not really avoidable. They had a hard time working together.

Please edit:

Beside these exhausting, but of absolutely professional episodes, Herzog did many more movies, which are all interesting in different ways. He surely can be called "A Münchner Kindl", which means "A child of Munich" in common Munich language. He is an exceptional director many people around the world appreciate. And he did some really good documentaries.
