Live Poll: Golden Age of Television

21st November is celebrated as the World Television Day. Let's celebrate it by remembering the golden age of television.

The period that ran roughly between 1948 and 1959 is referred to by many historians and scholars of the medium as the “Golden Age” of television.

Which of these do you think was the most impactful in the television history?

What's the question?

I'm not very familiar with most of these shows, but I imagine I would have been an avid watcher of the Ed Sullivan show.

Added the question. I was confused what to put as question.

I strongly disagree with scholars and historian, (1948-1959) is more like the normalization of TV Shows than its golden age, my great grandfather bought his first TV in 1950, and he was among the first one in his village to buy one.  On that date, during the same period, a lot of people still didn't have electricity in the countryside.

I would say that the Golden Age of TV is from 2000-Present.

I know "The Golden Age" is disputed among people. Even for India, the Television became normal as late as in the 1980s.

I would go ahead with this considering the American Television.

Hi ACT_1,

Thank you for suggestions and added some of those. I have defined criteria and the list looks a lot different.

Thanks Karen.

Removed non-US titles.

Kept The Little Rascal as that is the date in IMDb and I believe the date when it is aired that is considered mostly.

The other 2 suggestions do not fit in the criteria, release year and number of votes respectively.

I am not inclined towards 2 polls, because of low number votes and less popularity. And that might be the reason the poll does not exist for this. :D

That is correct. To clarify I meant the votes on the titles and not the poll.

"Older titles are almost unrecognizable to people under 45."

That is the main reason to include more popular titles, so it is at least "known". :)

Your suggestions are valid but does not fit the criteria that I have drawn.

The poll is limited to 35 choices, so I need to limit it somewhere.

My list was based on Brittanica which is not ideal. It looks very different now with defined criteria.

Great poll, good intro, and great question! Perry Mason, I Love Lucy, or the Ed Sullivan Show will get my vote. You can still see their influence today.

I have two kind of similar polls, in that they focus on specific periods of TV and their importance:

https://www.imdb.com/poll/00LI8G4vV28/?ref_=po_ti

https://www.imdb.com/poll/R59Y6IrZgRo/

When your poll goes live, I'll place a link to it on those two polls of mine.
