Mon oncle d'Amérique (1980) doesn't try to make a biography of fictional people. It is what the plot outline says: "The intersecting stories of three people who face difficult choices in life-changing situations are used to illustrate the theories espoused by Henri Laborit about human behavior and the relationship between the self and society."

It is closer to Teorema in the concept than with the rest of the films listed.

We should maybe stick to movies that cover the progress of the main character's life from childhood or early adulthood onward to the point in time that constitutes a present day of story and before the character's death; basically like Forrest Gump and Interview with a Vampire,

@jeorj_euler

Well, Jeorj.

That isn't stated clear enough in the intro or poll-description. I understand your intention, but with that setting half of the movies are off. I suggested some movies, which throw a light on part of the characters life in that movies. I especially tried to figure out some movies, where a wider time span of the characters life is shown. Just look on (e.g.) Copiyng Beethoven. This movie is biographical for sure, but it just shows a little timespan at the end of Beethoven's life. I think that in the examples of the list a medium time span of these characters lifes is told. I don't get, why it always has to be from birth to death. Normaly a part of life is enough to call it biographical. In that cases it's also fictional.

P.S.: ... which is also a feature in nearly each drama.

I just thought it might be meaningful and utilitarian to narrow down the criteria, as otherwise any fictional movie focused on one character would fit the bill.

Agree. Then it is more difficult to find fitting movies. But I guess the quality of the poll would rise. I'd say it depends on the idea CyrilMartin has about the suggestions. And about how CyrilMartin wants to create it. It's CyrlMartin's idea, I just suggested.

Yes, agreed. After my research, I didn't get a clear constructed meaning of fictional biography. I loosely based it on the idea of the fictional history of a person.

I think the correct meaning of the fictional biography subgenre as you guys said is based on a character's fictional history and the story is viewed from the standpoint of the main character and dramatizes around the character, else as Jeorg said most of the films would fit the bill.

As @Breumaster stated, the quality of the list will rise proportional to the suggestions.

Made some changes, thanks for the ideas and suggestions @jeorj_euler @Breumaster.

Currently, the list has 27 titles. If there are more suggestions then I'll stick to the present criteria if not I'll revert the criteria.

As there were over more than 40 titles (thanks to y'all), changed the criteria to 5k votes and a 7.0 rating.

I'm not sure what the present criteria are. Can the character be a real person?

El Greco is about a real person, and I don't think it's more fictional than most other biopics.

Blinded by the Light was based on a memoir, although the movie changes the character name.

Present criteria are

Movies that have at least 2,500 votes and an IMDb rating of at least 6.5 are considered.

Fictional Biography is a genre wherein an author writes an account of a person's life where that person is actually a fictional character (or leastways, is generally thought to be)

It's also defined as the genre wherein it provides a fictional account of a contemporary or historical person's life.

So yes, it can be based on a real person but not their actual story but a fictional one.

El Greco,

The film tells a fictitious story of Domenicos Theotokopoulos, better known asEl Greco (Wiki)

I'll remove Blinded by the Light, thanks for the correction.

Looks better. I think it's really better to define it from the start of making the idea public.

I (for myself) always try to make the idea as defined as possible. I mostly do movie polls and don't like to mix it with TV-series, so I state that in the intro of it here on gs. I made the experience that there are lesser missunderstadings when I do so. Seems I missed or forgot the fact that BbtL is from a real person. That's life.

Yes, I’ll try to put an intro while posting a complicated list. The thing is only after you guys start giving suggestions, I’ll gather to get a clear definition of what I’ve posted.

Perhaps Barry Lyndon, though apparently the novel was inspired by a real person.

Movie,

The screenplay was based on an obscure novel by William Makepeace Thackeray called The Luck of Barry Lyndon, which was itself inspired by the true storyof Anglo-Irish adventurer Andrew Robinson Stoney

Book,

The fictional biography of an adventurer and rogue, Barry Lyndon is born into the petty Irish gentry, and outdone in his first love affair.

But the novel is referred to as a fictional biography.

Wonder if the movie is historically accurate to that of Andrew Robinson Stoney or fictional...

You are wrong. It is very similar to Citizen Kane.

The film answers deeper questions such as: "Why Narwal remained silent for so long?", "Why she treated the twins like she did?", the content of the letters to her son/"tormentor" and the twins is much more important than the identity of the father/son. Therefore, the "detective story" wasn't the focus of Wadji Mouawad when he wrote the play, nor the one of Denis Villeneuve when he adapted it to the screen.

I'm thinking that since you have a working definition, Cyril, like you described in posts above, that it would be helpful to include a brief definition of a fictional biography in the intro. 'Good idea for a poll, btw! I don't think that anything quite like this has ever been done before.

Hi @CyrilMartin : )

'Just wanted to see if you still want to add anything to the intro. It's entirely up to you, of course; I just wanted to check if you're ok with it going live as it is or if you want more time.
