Scorsese. For me, it was always Scorsese.
But, the distance has widened in recent years because Spielberg keeps making bad films such as Ready Player One, The Post, The Fabelmans, The BFG. His last truly great film is maybe Munich. His greatest film is also Munich.
Meanwhile, Scorsese has also gone downhill, but The Irishman and Killers of the Flower Moon are better than what Spielberg has done in recent years. His last great film is maybe Hugo or The Aviator. His greatest film is The Age of Innocence.
