Intro:

There are five very special story tellers, Alejandro González Iñárritu, Woody Allen, Alfonso Cuarón, Darren Aronofsky and Hayao Miyazaki. All of them are strongly centering the focus of their stories directly to the lives and the progress of the characters depending on their circumstances. These are five directors that have a very unique style.

I do not quite understand the link that you are trying to make between those five directors. What do they have in common?

I do not like Cuaron. Inarritu is decent. Aronofsky has made great films, but also bad ones. Woody Allen has mad masterpiece, but has not made a great films in decades.

I think I will vote for Miyazaki

If you would not place Cuarón, do you have a better replacement for him?

Again, I am not sure I quite understand the idea of the poll. If the poll is about directors who write strong characters then maybe Paul Thomas Anderson.

I'm ok with replacing Curón by Anderson, because he will fit the criteria as well. It's not only the strong characters they portrayed, it's also about their very special life-situations where these directors show through their lenses. They do it in their special styles which are outstanding in different ways. Even though these movie makers are not such cine-gods like Scorsese, Nolan, Spielberg, they have special qualities as well, shown through their special unique style. And always with the focus on the developement of their main characters. In that way they are compareable.

I think if they wouldn't be named in the title, one would get that is typical Aronofsky, this is typical Anderson, this is typical Allen, ...
