Poll Suggestion: Face-Off: ‘Arco’ vs. ‘Little Amélie or the Character of Rain'

‘Arco’ and ‘Little Amélie or the Character of Rain’ are both acclaimed 2025 French animated films that focus on child protagonists and complex themes. Both films have been praised for their unique animation styles and for demonstrating the originality in tackling serious themes within a family-friendly context.

Which one of these French hand-drawn animation films is better?

The world is a perplexing, peaceful mystery, a single event could changes everything.

Arco is in my top ten favorite films of 2025. Little Amelie is on my worst films list. If the theater shown me the damn French dub instead of the terrible English dub (pretentious narration)? That might have been different. The irony was that I was the only one in the theater on Halloween watching this overrated mess. The Angelika Film Center messed up that night. Especially because when I bought the ticket it did ambiguously mention English subtitles.

@Tsarstepan

I have these two movies on my watchlist.

I'm sorry you had such a bad experience with 'Little Amelie', It happens sometimes.

I hope it doesn't stop you from watching other foreign films.

Thanks for sharing.

Firstly, I was unaware that this version I saw in the theaters was the English dub. That was ambiguously stated in the ticket purchase online. I would have preferred the original French. Though, most animated English dubs (when involving animated projects from other nonEnglish speaking countries) tend to be fine. I suspect the problem here wasn't the voice acting but a lazy attempt at translating the already heady philosophical French dialogue and narration into a very simplified (for the kids) English.

And as a proper metric? I went to the movie theaters 60 times with nonEnglish dubs/language tracks (English subs) last year. So? Watching foreign films has never been a roadblock for me.
