I like the idea, but feel the topic should be more targeted, rather than any drama with a tie to politics or uses it simply as a backdrop. There are a lot movies that focus more on the inner workings of politics or are overtly political. Also, there are quite a few current and IMDb Top 250 dramas that would be prime candidates for inclusion. Here are some suggestions that fit your 10,000+ IMDb total votes and 7.0+ IMDb rating requirements. Some of these movies are more politically themed than others. I leave it you to decide between prioritizing those over more popular movies that are less political.

IKIRU is in no way a political movie! It's probably one of the best dramas ever made, and is one of my personal favourites, but someone has their genres mixed up.
