Live Poll: Afghan Films

From Wikipedia: When the Taliban took power in 1996, cinemas were attacked and many films were burnt. The Taliban forbade the viewing of television and films and cinemas were closed, either becoming tea shops or restaurants or falling into a state of disrepair. Habibullah Ali of Afghan Film hid thousands of films, buried underground or in hidden rooms, to prevent their destruction by the Taliban. Teardrops was the first post-Taliban film in 2002, and the first film since Oruj in 1995. On November 19, 2001, Bakhtar was the first cinema to re-open its doors, where thousands of people entered that day.

Rules: From 2002-2021

All Afghan films listed on IMDb: https://www.imdb.com/search/title/?countries=af

List: https://www.imdb.com/list/ls507470257/

PS: If it is possible I would like the poll to remain without question or maybe with a note telling the users they can vote for whatever. But, if a question is absolutely mandatory I will include one.

I think a question is mandatory, otherwise you're not polling anything and there's no indication about why anyone choose any option.

It would be good to have a poll dedicated to Afghanistan cinema, specially in these days when we all fear for its cultural heritage and its people.

It is a poll, but there is only one implicit option: "Vote anything if you support Afghan cinema, it doesn't matter if you have seen none of the films." In other words, it is sort of a petition against the destruction of Afghanistan's cultural heritage by the Taliban, particularly of Afghan cinema.

I couldn't imagine asking: "What is your favorite Afghan film". It is why I named the poll "Afghan Films" instead of "Favorite Afghan Films". I don't want people to abstain from voting because they haven't seen any of the films or aren't planning to watch any in the future.

I could envisage asking a rubbish unrelated question. But, I would prefer not to ask any question that would overshadow the poll's real purpose.

A couple of questions I have written, if it is mandatory (in order of preference):

1) "What is your favorite color"

I would list colors below each of the 35 films.

2) "What is your favorite film? If you do not have a favorite, vote for your favorite color."

Again, I would list a color below each film.

3) "What is your favorite poster?"
Considering it is a title poll, and posters may change over time. The poll's results would become meaningless in a few months/years, but not immediately.

Some of those titles are foreign productions that may have been filmed in Afghanistan or co-produced with Afghans. It may make it more interesting to also include other foreign-made films about Afghanistan. This may, of course, be another poll in addition to this one.

I may make a poll on the Afghan War from the USA's perspective or perhaps on the USA's post-9/11 military presence in the "Greater Middle East". But, definitely in a separate poll.

I was also thinking of films like The Breadwinner or The Swallows of Kabul.

@cinephile,

Please add a discussion link to your list.

May I humbly suggest this for a question:

Which of these Afghan films best exemplifies film making in Afghanistan from 2002 to 2021?

Added the discussion link. The question you suggested isn't perfect, but it is a fair middle ground between what I originally wanted and what a poll needs to be on a site like IMDb, so I added it.

It's a well-meaning poll but I would have asked  the question differently "which film would you be most interested to watch?"

As simple as that...

I think it's fair to assume that a majority of voters haven't watched more than 1 or 2 of these films (especially when there are less than 500 votes) and by that I mean even hardcore cinephiles who're interested in foreign movies... so let's just ask a more open question.

Sorry, somehow I didn't saw your post before I replied to Dan.

I thought of asking that question. Indeed, most people haven't seen those films. However, to ask that question, I would have to include at least the plot. It is not the goal to overload voters with details on specific films. The most important part of the poll, in my opinion, is the Wikipedia quote. What I could consider, if I choose this question, is to link the "original" list (https://www.imdb.com/list/ls507470257/) for people that are interested in the directors, actors, genres, etc. I did that for the poll "2021 Cannes Film Festival — Palme d'Or". And, the number of views on the list (534) proves it had a certain success.

I saw Kabullywood and think it was a real good movie.

It's about the artists life  and the repression about arts.

It has a real background and shows up the life situation of

different people in Kabul. I even think it's slightly underrated.

@Breumaster

It's co-production of Afghanistan and France.
