FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION

Beth Riesgraf was born August 24, 1978.  She most famously played Parker in the Leverage television series (and it's revival) for eight seasons.  Beth has more than 40 other acting credits.  She will turn 50 (your magic number) on her birthday in 2028.

Beth who? Sorry for beeing rude. I haven't noticed her on screen by now. To collect as many votes as possible it's best to pick people that are known to a wide base of people. I've put her to the list above. Let's have a look how the poll board - and in case of beeing released the voters - will perceive her birthday. I'll make a list up.

She hasn't entered the year of her birth on IMDb , so I used chatGPT for research. It say August 24, 1978. I entered this date above and will head for a poll idea about her. As you see, Malin Akerman already has a seat on the table. Isn't she precious? I do like her so much. She'll probbaly collect a few hundret votes.

@Breumaster   Riesgraf.  You actually list her above as Liesgraf.  You may not be familiar with her, but I would put her in my top ten of favorite current actresses.  To be honest, I have not heard of over half of the names that you list above (though I do not watch a great deal of the current television programs).

You can certainly check the StarMeter ranking for each individual person. All of these people are among the Top 5,000 most-searched people, while Beth Riesgraf isn’t even in the Top 5,000.

You recognize her because of your personal preferences, which is perfectly fine.

I still included her in the birthday list because it seemed to be important to you. She’ll get her poll as long as the poll-board gods decide that she should. There is still quite a long time until 2028. As long as this project continues to be okay and wanted by IMDb, I’ll keep working on it, and she will be taken into consideration in good time. That’s why I fixed her name at the top of the list.

And sorry for spelling her name incorrectly.

Zoe Saldana, for example, is currently #16 in the StarMeter. If you ask a film enthusiast on the street who Zoe Saldana is, there’s probably a 50% chance you’ll hear: “Oh, she was the one from the Guardians of the Galaxy movies, right!?”

With Beth Riesgraf, on the other hand, everyone would probably ask: “Beth who?”

She’s simply your personal “darling.” Every one of these other stars is extremely well known through numerous projects in which they have often consistently been among the first 10–20 names in the credits. With Beth, I have my doubts about that.

But that says absolutely nothing about the quality of her personality or her acting abilities. It’s simply about popularity. And popularity is what I use to get votes - alongside the fact that I genuinely enjoy watching these people on screen.

So the birthday greeting also comes from somewhere heartfelt, as a small thank-you for the good entertainment they have provided.

And during my research, I always learn interesting things as well - for example, that Tim Curry, among other things, has also served as a patron for a children’s hospital.

@Breumaster   Yes, she may be just a personal favorite, but Lisa Jakub (for example)?  She did Mrs. Doubtfire and Independence Day and then pretty much disappeared from the movies and television.  Just because she might have a "starmeter" ranking doesn't mean she is significant.

I admit that Mrs. Jakub is the only one I chose because of just being sympathetic to me. She is still better known like Beth Riesgraf or at least the same level. The others are better known actors.

I see it otherwise with the starmeter. Why would IMDb install it, if it's useless? And you can't reject that Maybe Wes Bentley, Justin Long and Rachel McAdams are well known to the masses. Also Katie Holmes. They almost everytime appear in the top 10 - Top 20 actors in the credits. Katie Holmes was a significant character in 'Batman Beginns'. And you seriously tell me, you didn't notice her. Then you watch movies wrongly somehow. Or you didn't watch that movie, which about 1.7 Million people rated on IMDb. She ist named the fourth actor in the ending credits.

@Breumaster   I know Katie Holmes mostly because of all of the tabloid stories about her marriage to Tom Cruise.  I first heard of her when she did some teenage show that my oldest daughter used to have to watch (Dawson's Creek).  I hated everything about Batman Begins and wish that I could erase that horrible film (and all of the Nolan Batman's) from my mind.  By the way, I have never heard of Wes Bentley, have heard the name Justin Long but don't know anything that he has done off the top of my head, and am very familiar with Rachel McAdams (who is probably in my top twenty of current favorites if I actually make a list).

By saying that, you’re also admitting that you rejected the list solely because of your personal dislikes - 'Batman Begins' for example, because you don’t like 'Batman Begins'.

I’m sorry to say this, but you’re not the only person on this earth. There are many other people who see things differently.

And history has shown time and time again where it leads when someone tries to turn their personal opinion into a creed for the masses: it has never ended well.

@Breumaster   I think something may be getting lost in translation here.  I got the impression from your words that Batman Begins was immensely popular and that I was expected to know and like Holmes from that movie.  I stated that I had known her previously and that I intensely dislike Batman Begins (in spite of Holmes and her participation).  My dislike is personal as I hated the story and could not stand the directing.  I recognize that other people like the film and like Nolan, but they are not my cup of tea.

I do try to encourage people to know about and give a chance to the directors and films and television that I like and admire.  I accept that all tastes do not mirror mine and that some people will enjoy shows that I personally find deplorable or even just mildly dislike.

There was no insult intended towards you or your list.  My primary objective was to point out a star that I enjoyed who was missing from the list.

After I wondered about Beth Riesgraf, because I genuinely had never heard of her before, you said that you had never heard of half of the actors on the list either. There are always two levels to what someone writes. There are the obvious words, which make up the factual level, and then there is at least a second, subconscious layer that comes through and carries the actual intention.

Based on my assessment of your favorite actress - which I had dismissed as someone rather unknown - you devalued my list by emphasizing that you had never even heard of half of these people, without considering that there are plenty of other users who do know and appreciate all of these actors and actresses very well, and who would probably be happy to celebrate many of them too. That message wasn't necessary, but you wanted to emphasize it.

And yet I gave her a chance beforehand - and she has that chance now. Period. I stand by my word. The only possible change would be if the parameters changed in general. For example, if we suddenly started getting ten suggestions for the birthdays of Harald Bierlinger the Second, John Smith the Fifth, or Jane Doe the Seventh, and there were simply too many relatively unknown names (Don't search! I just instantly invented the names), I might introduce a “Starmeter rule.” But I don't want to do that.

It’s good as it is. I’ve tried to put the brakes on it a little without getting too deeply involved.

Lost in translation, you could say. ;)
