OT: Actor or actress?
Question from a non-Native English speaker.
In French, we say "acteur" and "actrice".
It seemed like in English, we could say "actor" and "actress" until recently. Now, I've found many articles on IMDb news section referring to women as 'actors'. Is it wrong now to make the distinction between the two or is 'actor' the 'preferred nomenclature' (as Walter Schobsak would put it)
Thanks for your answers,
ElM.

Producer, Director, Writer, Editor, Creator etc can be Male OR Female
Why not Actor ??
er..or..er..or.. ??

Then there is ...
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Non-binary_gender
an umbrella term for gender identities that are not solely male or female
Should be many replies here 😀

There is one word that has been around for centuries that is gender neutral that should satisfy all, but strangely is not used.

To answer your question, it is not wrong to make a distinction between actors and actresses.
Consider that at the Oscars, there are still awards for best actress in a leading role, best actress in a supporting role, etc.

Thanks for all the answers, i'm only glad to know that the word 'actress' isn't taboo... not yet anyway. i wouldn't be surprised if some day the word 'actor' becomes mandatory .

I was reading an IMDb quote item about a famous actress (which of whom I forgot), and she is reported to have mentioned something about how we don't refer to a female doctor as a "doctress" hence sense can be made of her rerfering to herself as an actor rather than an actress.
