Many memorable plot twists happened near the end of the movie or during
the final act, to the degree that most of the time, the notion of 'twist' is associated with surprise endings. But that's ignoring that many classic shockers, surprises or plot-derailing revelations happened in the second act.

I don't see Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back (1980) not winning this one but others like Se7en, Psycho and Gone Girl you definitely don't see coming. All great films though!

Yes and no. In the absolute, the revelation is a shocker but since the vast majority of users probably knew the twist before watching the film, O hope they'll play fair with the question and really vote for the one that shocked them the most.

I had the QT films in mind. You mean the death of Vincent and the killing of Mr. Blonde, revealing the identity of the traitor, right?

Not familiar with the Secret in the Eyes but I trust your word, I just need a little explanation of a quote that defines the twist. as for A Beautiful Mind, wasn't the whole 'hallucination' thing revealed near the end?, I can't remember.

Yes. I think they should be included, those are pretty much twists, right?

A Secret in Their Eyes is about a homicide case where the murderer is revealed in the middle of the film. I'm not sure if that counts as a twist because there is another twist near the end, but since you included Se7en than maybe this could do too.

The quote that defined the twist: "Obviously they're not talking about
this microbe. He must have a peanut"

No, it was revealed in the middle. The second half of the film is about his therapy and their attempt to live a normal life with his condition.

i think psycho would definitely be near the top for me, but i always perceived that as an opening shocker...

empire strikes back was like...wow...cool...but not such a revelation for me anyway...

i think full metal jacket would have to win the definition of 'shocker' for me...the one where you actually sit back and go '...whoa!...'...
