How do you follow up a decade which many consider to have included the two single greatest gangster films in The Godfather (1972) AND The Godfather: Part II (1974)? It's no easy task, but the 1980s (a time some people deemed a 'resurfacing of the genre') was a great time for the gangster genre, featuring some of the best actors and directors of our time at the top of their cinematic game.

I'm not sure the 80s represented a peak in the gangster genre, I think the genre resurfaced with the 90s, where you can count the classics by the dozen. This is a great list (full of underrated little gems) but for me it all comes down to a Face-Off between Leone and the two DePalmas (one being faaaaaar superior than the other).

I like the poll but I'm not sure I share 100% of your enthusiasm in the intro.
